A fresh political storm has erupted in Madhya Pradesh after Congress MLA Sahab Singh Gurjar hurled an offensive jibe at members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), calling them “hijras” during a public protest. The remark, seen as both derogatory and inflammatory, has triggered widespread condemnation from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and ignited a new round of political slugfest in the state.
Gurjar’s Explosive Remark
While addressing Congress’s ‘Nyay Satyagraha’ protest in Ashoknagar, Gurjar, the sitting MLA from Gwalior Rural, said: “Jo mard they vo jang me aaye, jo hijre they vo Sangh me gaye.”
(Translation: Those who were men went to war, those who were eunuchs went to the Sangh.)
The crowd at the protest included senior Congress leaders such as Digvijaya Singh, Umang Singhar, and Jitu Patwari. The statement, made on a public mic and captured on video, instantly went viral across social media platforms, drawing outrage and sharp rebukes from the BJP.
BJP Hits Back, Calls Remark “Unconstitutional and Vile”
Reacting to Gurjar’s comment, State Cooperative Minister and BJP leader Vishvas Sarang slammed the Congress MLA and the party leadership for what he called “a reflection of their decaying moral compass.”
“This is not just factionalism; it’s a reflection of the Congress party’s deepening internal chaos and disregard for constitutional values,” Sarang said.
BJP leaders have demanded a formal apology from both Gurjar and the Congress high command. The party is also considering filing a complaint with the Election Commission and seeking legal action.
Protest Erupts Over FIR Against Jitu Patwari
The remark came during a protest organized by the Congress in response to an FIR filed against its Madhya Pradesh unit chief, Jitu Patwari. The FIR was registered after a dramatic turn in a case involving local resident Gajraj Lodhi.
Lodhi had earlier accused a BJP worker of physically assaulting him and forcing him to eat human excreta; a disturbing allegation that gained traction when he met Patwari during the latter’s visit to Orchha on June 25. However, Lodhi later backtracked, claiming Patwari had pressured him into filing the complaint.
Based on this revised statement, police in Mungawali registered an FIR against Patwari, accusing him of coercion.
Congress Threatens Mass Surrender
Former minister Jaivardhan Singh, speaking at the same protest, issued a direct ultimatum to the authorities.
“If the FIR against Jitu Patwari is not withdrawn by July 7, we will surrender in mass at Mungawali police station on July 8,” he declared to loud applause.
The protest site witnessed heavy police presence. Convoys of Congress MLAs were intercepted, vehicles searched, and movements restricted in an apparent attempt to control the protest’s scale and prevent escalation.
Damage Control or Political Meltdown?
As the video of Gurjar’s statement continues to circulate online, political observers believe the Congress may be forced into damage control mode. However, no official statement or apology had been issued by the party at the time of reporting.
The remark has not only embarrassed the party’s top brass but also handed a fresh weapon to the BJP ahead of upcoming polls. With tempers flaring and political rhetoric hitting new lows, this incident may mark yet another bitter chapter in the intensifying battle for Madhya Pradesh.
