In a case that has sent shockwaves through the political and legal circles of Uttar Pradesh, a woman from Agra’s Shahganj area has filed a serious complaint against a local Congress leader and advocate, Jalaluddin. The FIR, officially registered on July 4, accuses Jalaluddin of rape, physical abuse, intimidation, and attempts to forcibly convert her to Islam over a period spanning several years.
First Assault Allegedly Occurred at Congress Office
The woman alleges that the first instance of sexual assault took place in September 2019 at the Congress party office on MG Road, Agra. According to the FIR, Jalaluddin lured her there under the pretext of helping her procure medicine, and once inside, he allegedly brandished a firearm and raped her. Fearing public shame and damage to her reputation, she chose not to report the incident at the time.
Relationship Began with Legal Help, Turned Violent
Her ordeal reportedly began in July 2019, when she was facing a family dispute. At the time, she met Jalaluddin at the Agra District Court, where he offered legal advice and gradually gained her trust. The woman claims this trust was later exploited, as Jalaluddin began visiting her home frequently and allegedly committed repeated acts of abuse and coercion.
Forced Religious Practices
The complainant, who lives with her mother and daughter while her husband works in Gujarat, claims that Jalaluddin entered her home without permission, conducted Islamic prayers (namaz), and pressured her to recite the Kalma and convert to Islam. He allegedly insisted she marry him after conversion. According to her, refusal led to physical assault and threats of defamation.
CCTV Evidence Cited, Police Initially Refused Complaint
In one incident, she says Jalaluddin attempted to attack her with a knife; an event she claims was captured on CCTV. She also accused him of repeated physical violence. The woman tried to report the matter on July 2, but says the police initially refused to register her complaint. It was only after she wrote to the Sub-Divisional Magistrate that the FIR was filed.
Investigation Underway, No Arrest Yet
Authorities have not confirmed whether Jalaluddin has been detained or questioned. The charges against him include rape, criminal intimidation, and violations related to forced conversion. Police are reportedly reviewing evidence submitted by the complainant, including surveillance footage.
Political Fallout and Public Outcry Expected
The case, involving a politically affiliated lawyer and serious allegations of sexual and religious violence, is expected to draw widespread attention. It raises questions about the abuse of legal influence, the delayed response by authorities, and the safety of women who face threats from powerful individuals.
