A 17-year-old student from Tiruppur tragically lost her life after reportedly being assaulted by her father due to poor performance in a NEET mock test. The incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed scrutiny over the academic pressure placed on students preparing for high-stakes exams.
According to police sources, the teenager had recently taken a NEET practice exam, and her low scores allegedly triggered a violent reaction from her father, who works as a daily wage laborer. The confrontation escalated, and the girl suffered critical injuries that led to her death. She was found unresponsive at home, and authorities were notified by concerned neighbors.
The father was arrested shortly after the incident, and he is currently facing murder charges. Police have launched a full investigation, and the girl’s body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Mental health advocates and child rights organizations have condemned the incident, highlighting the need for greater emotional support and reduced pressure on students. “This tragedy reflects how toxic academic expectations can lead to irreversible consequences,” a Chennai-based counselor remarked.
Authorities have offered counseling services to the affected family and community members. The case continues to be under investigation.
