From Justifying Murshidabad Violence to Provoking Muslim mobs, ‘Let 8-10 die in every town’: Congress’ toolkit on Anti Waqf Protest

When a political party begins to justify Hindu exodus and persecution as a form of protest, it loses all moral standing and that’s precisely where the Congress party finds itself today, especially in the wake of the dastardly Murshidabad Violence.

In a shocking display of recklessness, Congress leader Kabir Khan was caught on camera inciting people to burn buses and trains, urging “sacrifice” through deaths in every town to oppose the WAQF Amendment Act. This is not politics. This is criminality wrapped in the garb of protest. Kabir Khan, a former corporator from Davanagere in Karnataka, shamelessly declared in the viral video, “Set fire to buses and trains… there must be eight to ten deaths in every town… posters and petitions won’t help only destruction will.”

Such speeches are not just inflammatory; they are calculated calls for chaos.

Thankfully, the law stepped in where Congress failed to act. After widespread public outrage, Karnataka Police booked Kabir Khan under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for promoting enmity and inciting violence. He initially absconded, fleeing the state, but was finally traced and arrested. Police confirmed he will be produced before the court, and investigations are ongoing to identify others involved in spreading the video. Yet instead of distancing themselves from this dangerous rhetoric, Congress leaders doubled down.

Senior leader Rashid Alvi shamelessly invoked the Gujarat riots, Salman Rushdie, and the Golden Temple, claiming that “every action has a reaction.”

“I recall the horrific communal riots in Gujarat, when Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said, ‘Every action has a reaction.’ What we are witnessing now in Murshidabad is a similar reaction and the BJP is to blame. When you forcefully interfere in someone’s religion, consequences are bound to follow. We’ve seen what happened to Salman Rushdie, to a BJP spokesperson, and even during the Golden Temple incident. Religion is not something to be tampered with. But the BJP, being anti-Muslim and anti-Islam, has aggressively imposed the WAQF Act. Muslims across the country are protesting, yet the BJP continues to turn a blind eye and deaf ear”, senior Congress leader brazenly added.

This is nothing but political gaslighting. Congress leaders are attempting to fan communal fires while playing the victim. If BJP is “attacking a religion” by pushing for transparency and regulation in Waqf land management, then what does that make a party that cheers calls for riots?

The WAQF Amendment Act, 2025, came into effect on April 5 and is intended to bring order and transparency to the management of religious endowments. It does not call for demolition, eviction, or expropriation without process. But instead of engaging in democratic dialogue, Congress has chosen to weaponize identity and incite violence.
