The Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has received a security threat through an email, prompting immediate investigations by law enforcement agencies. The email was reportedly sent on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday. The threatening email was written in English by an individual based in Tamil Nadu, according to police sources.
Though the email content has not been made public, security agencies are taking it very seriously. The police have initiated a thorough investigation to identify the sender and ascertain the authenticity of the threat. So far, neither the Shri Ram Janmbhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust nor any security agency has made an official comment on the incident.
The Ram Mandir in Ayodhya is of immense religious and cultural value to millions of Hindus across the globe. It has been built after years of political and legal battle which revolved around the land cite considered to be the birthplace of Lord Ram.
However, this is not the first time when threatening emails have warned of an attack on the revered Hindu temple. Incidentally, last year in November, US-based Khalistani terrorist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun threatened to target Hindu temples across India, including the grand Ram Mandir in Ayodhya. In a video message, which was released by the banned Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), Pannun warned of an attack on the temple on November 16 and 17, last year.
After a prolonged legal battle, the Supreme Court of India, in a landmark 2019 verdict, awarded the land for the construction of the Ram Mandir while allocating an alternate site for a mosque. In August 2020, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for the historic Ram Mandir, and, finally, the spectacular temple is being constructed.
