Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has made an urgent appeal to the people of the state to have children immediately, citing concerns that successful family planning measures have put the state at a ‘disadvantage’. MK Stalin emphasized that population-based delimitation could reduce Tamil Nadu’s political representation in Parliament, making it crucial for residents to respond to the current demographic challenge.

Reflecting on the shift in Tamil Nadu’s demographic landscape, Stalin stated, “Earlier, we used to say, take your time and have a baby. But now the situation has changed, and we should say it now.”

MK Stalin linked his concerns to the potential impact of the delimitation process, stating, “We implemented family planning successfully, and now we are facing such a situation.” He further warned that if the exercise proceeds as expected, Tamil Nadu could lose up to eight Lok Sabha seats, diminishing its influence in national politics.

To address this issue, MK Stalin has called for an all-party meeting on March 5, urging political leaders to put aside their differences and work together to protect Tamil Nadu’s interests.

“I urge them to attend the meeting. Please set aside ego. Don’t think about why you should listen to my call,” he said, underscoring the seriousness of the issue.

A total of 40 political parties registered with the Election Commission have been invited to the meeting to deliberate on the implications of constituency delimitation. Stalin has described the process as a “sword dangling over Tamil Nadu,” emphasizing the need for collective action.

Meanwhile, Union Home Minister Amit Shah has sought to allay fears, stating that no southern state will see a reduction in parliamentary seats. Speaking at the inauguration of BJP offices in Coimbatore, Tiruvannamalai, and Ramanathapuram, Amit Shah had reassured, “The Modi government has made it clear in Lok Sabha that after delimitation, not a single seat will be reduced in any southern state on a pro-rata basis. The southern states will receive their fair share in the increase.”

Despite these assurances, DMK leader has not only doubled down on his brazen rhetoric around delimitation but have also been intensifiying his smear campaign against Hindi, fanning mass hysteria to peddle the boggie of North vs South.
