Dedicated to the legendary Ahom general Lachit Borphukan, who led courageous battles to repel Mughal aggressions in Assam during the 17th century, the academy is an epitome of the glorious history of Assam and its evolving security needs. The initial phase, built at a cost of Rs 167.4 crore, has state-of-the-art classrooms, a weapons simulator, a fully equipped library, and other training facilities to improve police skills in fighting insurgency, border management, and law and order in Assam’s diverse terrain.

Shah also laid the foundation stone of the second phase of the academy, which is estimated to be Rs 425.48 crore. The upcoming phase will include residential facilities for trainees as well as officers, making the academy a world-class training institution for police officers in the region.
In his address, Shah emphasized the change in Assam under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, pitting it against the erstwhile Congress regime. He noted that Assam had received Rs 1.27 lakh crore as devolution grants and central assistance in 10 years of Congress rule, and that the Modi government has substantially raised financial assistance, opening doors for development and peace.
Congress party plunged Assam into the fire of riots and kept it in a state of turmoil. Under the Modi govt, peace has been established in Assam, and now world-class infrastructure is being developed along with major industries.
