Yogi Adityanath led BJP ahead on Milkipur bye-election: opposition had projected Ex-MLA Awdesh as “Raja of Ayodhya”

The counting of votes for the Milkipur Assembly by-election in ongoing, with the trends showing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) taking a lead of over 28679 votes after the tenth round. The counting process is taking place at the Government Inter College in Milkipur, with multiple rounds scheduled. The final results are expected by noon. Although 10 candidates are in the fray, the main contest is between BJP’s Chandrabhanu Paswan and Samajwadi Party’s (SP) Ajit Prasad. Ajit Prasad is the son of former MLA Awadhesh Prasad. The Milkipur reserved seat has become a prestige battle for both the ruling BJP and the opposition SP.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and SP chief Akhilesh Yadav campaigned vigorously for this election, drawing nationwide attention. Now, all eyes are on whether the BJP’s lotus will bloom in Milkipur or if the SP’s cycle will race ahead. This election holds special significance, as BJP is determined to reclaim lost ground after its unexpected defeat in Ayodhya during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Meanwhile, SP is keen to deliver a strong blow to BJP by securing Milkipur. Exit polls had predicted a defeat for SP in this by-election, adding to the anticipation surrounding the results.

With each round of counting, the picture is becoming clearer. As of now, BJP is maintaining its lead, but the final outcome will determine the political future of this crucial constituency. The final result will be revealed soon as the counting process nears its conclusion.

In the bye election that was conducted in November, 2024,  BJP-led by NDA secured a total of seven seats while the Samajwadi Party won. Phulpur, Ghaziabad, Majhawan, Khair, Kundarki, and Katehari are the assembly constituencies that were held by the Bhartiya Janata Party with BJP’s alliance partner Rashtriya Lok Dal, is leading from Meerapur making the NDA get an impressive hold of seven constituencies out of nine.
