Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) secretary general Abhay Singh Chautala’s son, Karan Singh Chautala, along with about seven others, has been booked by Jodhpur police for allegedly assaulting a man and damaging his car on Tuesday.
An FIR was registered against Karan, who serves as chairman of Sirsa Zila Parishad and national in-charge of INLD’s youth wing, based on a complaint filed by Majid Khan, a resident of Phalodi. The complaint affirms that the accused were allegedly drunk returning from a wedding in Jodhpur when the incident happened.
Sub-Inspector Aruna Kumari of Mandor police station claimed, “A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 115, 126, 189, and 324 of the BNS, and the matter is under investigation.”. The accused will be arrested soon.”
Khan alleged that Karan and his companions assaulted him and two of his friends while they were traveling in an Innova car to the railway station early Tuesday morning. He further accused them of looting valuables and issuing threats.
According to the FIR, the altercation began when Khan overtook three cars carrying Chautala and his group near the Footwear Design and Development Institute in Mandor. Angered by this, Chautala and his companions allegedly chased Khan’s car, intercepted it, pulled him out of the driver’s seat, and physically assaulted him. They damaged the car before fleeing.
It is alleged that the accused came back after 4 km and attacked Khan again, causing further damage to his vehicle. An FIR was lodged against unidentified persons, but police later booked Chautala and two of his associates, Sandeep and Jaideep, based on the security cameras’ footage.
Officials confirmed that Karan Chautala is the grandson of ex-Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala. The police are further investigating the case and are likely to make arrests as soon as possible. Since Chautala comes from a politically influential family and the allegations are serious, there is a lot of media attention on the incident.
