On Thursday, in the Khari Karmara area, the Army troops engaged the terrorists attempting to cross the Line of Control (LoC) into the Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army, supported by the Border Security Force, successfully repulsed an infiltration attempt. At least two terrorists were reportedly shot dead by the soldiers.
Officials said the operation remained difficult initially because of the thick foliage. Additional police reinforcements have reached the area to assist with the ongoing search operation.
Earlier on Thursday, an operation to seal off and search for possible terrorists on the run was initiated by security forces in the Doda district after receiving an intelligence tip-off on possible active terrorist activity in the area.
The joint operation the Police Force and the Central Reserve Police Force was focused on the Dorhu, Basti and adjacent forest areas of Bhaderwah. Reportedly, certain locals had spotted some suspicious movements, and the operation is reported still underway by the latest agency.
In a separate development, on 24 January, terrorists allegedly fired at the Army camp located in the Kathua district of Jammu. The exact time of the attack is set a little after nightfall in Bhatodi village, located in the Billawar region. Troops opened fire in retaliation, though no casualties have, as yet, been reported.
Authorities have cordoned off the area and launched an intense search operation. In the backdrop of Republic Day celebrations on January 26, security forces have stepped up their vigil. Multi-layered security with drones and spotters surveillance was employed to ensure the safe and smooth conduct of events in the area.
The security situation in Jammu and Kashmir is still tense, with several operations currently under way against infiltration and terrorism. The continued security deployment is an overall effort to control the area, particularly during events of national importance.
