The problem with leaders like Rahul Gandhi is what he once said, "Mai satta ke beech ke pauda hua hoon."

For how long have you been listening to rumours that China has occupied our land on borders. Quite often? The spurious claim was used by the opposition including Rahul Gandhi to target the Modi government. But the only clarification that came from both the government and army was that no land was encroached by China. Nothing more, nothing less, precisely this. Was this a calculated response?

Recently, former Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Manoj Mukund Naravane joined journalist Rahul Srivastava on a podcast on Jist Youtube channel. During the interaction, Srivastava asked Gen Naravane about politicians’ claim of Chinese occupation of Indian territory. With a subtle smile on his face, General Narvane said that the statements were made with inadequate information and hence need not to be entertained.

However, he further added that such questions need not to be entertained because clarification to those would reveal many things. Srivastava quickly summed it up, inquiring if such questions were a trap? To which, General Naravane replied in affirmative.

General Naravane’s indication is enough to comprehend how a narrative with inadequate information is floated. But more worrisome is the fact that it is not only done for political benefits but for getting the sensitive and confidential information out in the public domain. And had the government or army entertained the claim by issuing clarification, such statements would have come one after another and the sensitive info would have come out in a piecemeal way. This could have only served China’s interest by infusing lack of confidence among masses against the Union government deploying a resolute plan against Chinese salami slicing tactics and countering it with a mirror deployment.

Surprisingly, the ultimate goal brings Rahul Gandhi to the same page. Otherwise why didn’t he take the Indian Army’s stand into consideration?

Making spurious allegations, ignoring armed forces’ statements, harbouring lack of faith among people against the government make things dicey. Asking a question to the government is the duty and obligation of the opposition, but ignoring every clarification and creating distrust while strengthening the rival nation’s narrative is certainly an act that needs not only accountability but prosecution in people’s moral court.

The problem with leaders like Rahul Gandhi is what he once said, “Mai satta ke beech ke pauda hua hoon.” The family believes themselves to be the first family of the nation with Gandhi being the destined ruler ordained by God. This sense of entitlement has made Gandhi so insensitive that he could dent India in every way possible only to fulfill his political ambitions.

His divisive and casteist rhetoric gives away that one and only goal of his life is to become the Prime Minister which incidentally reflects in whatever he does. Be it going to a barber, railway employees or meeting with any other person for that matter, lack of compassion and commitment is there for all to see. Similarly, when he goes abroad, he is indifferent to what he is in India, a Leader of the Opposition. He toes the line against the nation and in favour of foreign powers urging them to be more ‘watchful’ or involvement in India’s democracy/democratic progress.

It is of utmost importance to understand that there should be no place for such politics and politicians that end up hurting country’s cause and interest at the altar of short-sighted political gains

General Naravane’s remark is far from politics, in fact,it has come from someone who has served the nation in his full capacity with altruism. His acknowledgment of the trap in claims made by Gandhi is another eye opener. It’s finally time for Gandhi to be tried in people’s court and the verdict should be the sunset clause for such anti-India booby trap politics in the next elections.
