AAP Supremo Arvind Kejriwal could finally face music of law for “poisoning” Indian politics

Since the inception of Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit, political discourse has plummeted to a record low, with "threat to life", "poison", "genocide", "accountability" etc, have been reduced to mere theatrics, stripped of their true meaning

Out-on-bail in Delhi Liquor Policy scam, Aam Aadmi Party Supremo Arvind Kejriwal has landed himself in fresh legal troubles. Notably, the Election Commission of India has sent him a second letter in connection with his “mixing poison in Yamuna” remark. EC has asked him to provide evidence to back his “mass murder” allegations against the BJP-led Haryana government.

In its letter, the EC has asked AAP to file another detailed response to back its claim that the Haryana government was “mixing poison” in the Yamuna. However, in its letter, EC noted that Kejriwal’s remarks prima facie appeared to promote disharmony and enmity between different groups. According to the letter, even by the most sober interpretation, his remarks were overall promoting “public disorder” and “unrest”.

Now, according to the Election Commission warning, if Kejriwal’s remarks are found to be baseless and false, he could be booked under BNS provisions that carry a maximum jail sentence of three years. Yes, legally, Kejriwal could face three years in jail for making outrageous allegations of an elected government “mixing poison” in Yamuna.

Shamelessness knows no bound

While the EC has asked him to submit another response by 11 AM on Friday (31st January), Kejriwal today came out and held a press conference where he used his old tactics, tactics he knows best – sheer and brazen blame game. Doubling down on his alarmist rhetoric that the BJP govt mixed poison in Yamuna, Kejriwal replied to the EC letter by labeling fresh allegations. This time he made fresh allegations against the Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar.

#WATCH | AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal says, “I would like to tell ECI, that they can’t see open distribution of money in Delhi…ECI is doing politics because Rajiv Kumar wants a job after his retirement. Now viewers, I don’t need to remind you how Kejriwal has built his political career and ruined that of Delhi residents, through his shameless theatrics of blame game, shoot and scout strategy with ZERO accountability.

Now, for clarity, let me briefly summarise what has been the major developments so far in this “poisoning Yamuna” row, how it all started, Kejriwal’s contentious remarks, BJP’s offensive against the AAP Supremo, with Haryana CM calling him a “Kapoot” and more. Hello and Welcome to TFI, I am your host for today, Paurush Gupta, if you like our content, do subscribe to our channel. Let’s begin.

It all started when Arvind Kejriwal made outrageous allegations saying that the BJP-led Haryana government mixed poison in the water coming to Delhi from Yamuna and sent it here. According to his theory, the BJP government did what even countries fighting war with each other don’t indulge in.

Kejriwal even compared it with “nuclear and biological warfare” alleging that the BJP wanted to pin the blame of “mass casualties” on the Aam Aadmi Party.

However, his outrageous allegations didn’t go down well with the principal opposition party BJP, general public, his I.N.D.I. alliance partner Congress and his past colleagues and ideological sympathisers. While Congress leader Ajay Makhan said that if the allegations of Kejriwal are found to be baseless, it would be nothing but “treason”.

Following Kejriwal’s contentious remarks, a war of words erupted between the Haryana and Delhi governments.

In a direct attack on Kejriwal, Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini accused him of being a “habitual liar”. In one of his tweets, he called Arvind Kejriwal a “Kapoot” meaning a disgraceful son.

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma also came down heavily on Kejriwal for launching a smear campaign against Haryana, which is incidentally Kejriwal’s birthplace. In a taunting remark for Kejriwal, Himanta Biswa Sarma said he would have considered dying as a better option than speaking ill and foul of his birthplace.

Hours later, PM Modi intensified attacks on Kejriwal. PM Modi categorically noted that he himself drinks the same water that is drawn from Yamuna. Slamming Kejriwal, PM Modi added that the Delhi voters will not forgive those who deliberately commit sin and have ill intentions.

It is striking to note that the Aam Aadmi party leaders also dig their heels and rather than understanding the gravity of their charges, they furthered the outrageous allegations. In fact, Atishi Marlena came out in defence of Kejriwal’s allegations and she went a step ahead and labeled the charge of “Water terrorism” on Haryana. She also threw a challenge at Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Saini asking him to join her and dare to drink water from the Yamuna.

Haryana CM rub it in her face

In a “befitting reply” to Atishi Marlena, Haryana CM Saini went to the Yamuna riverbank in Delhi’s Palla village where he did achmann (taking a sip of water as a mark of reverence) to bust the fake allegations of his state mixing “poison” in the Yamuna.

#WATCH | Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini takes a sip of water from the Yamuna River in Delhi’s Palla Village. pic.twitter.com/v1rkJXrcbQ

— ANI (@ANI) January 29, 2025

While for any other party, the appetite for insult would have been over by this time, but it’s AAP we are talking about. They started peddling a fabricated video alleging that Saini didn’t drink water from the Yamuna. According to them, what Nayab Saini did was a mere stunt. However, the video they shared was fabricated and in the original video of the incident, Haryana CM can be clearly seen doing achmann from the Yamuna river water.

Separating politics from fact

While as they say politics is a dirty game for piglets to play, it becomes important here for us to separate the real politicking from fact. Notably, the Delhi Jal Board categorically rubbished Kejriwal’s allegations.

CEO, Delhi Jal Board writes to CS. Says statements by AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal alleging that Haryana has released poison into raw water reaching Delhi through Yamuna are factually incorrect, without any basis and misleading. Such false statements lead to fear mongering among… pic.twitter.com/d4jxzFkjkp

— pallavi ghosh (@_pallavighosh) January 27, 2025

On Monday, Delhi Jal Board CEO Shilpa Shinde denied Kejriwal’s allegations that the Haryana government had released “poison” into the Yamuna river water. The Board trashed the allegations as “factually incorrect, without basis, and misleading.”

Now as per the infographics shared by Infoindata, it can be clearly seen that the levels of both ammonia and BOD rise sharply as it enters Delhi at Palla, from Haryana. What this clearly reflect is the inefficiency on the part of the Delhi Government and its abject failure in cleaning the Yamuna river water despite reportedly drawing over Rs 8000 crores for the same. Since the population level hasn’t gone down in over a decades of Kejriwal’s tenure, as he had promised for a gazillion time, it has intensified allegations of another possible financial misappropriation of funds in the controlling Yamuna’s pollution.

— infoindata (@infoindata) January 29, 2025

Nonetheless, while the EC could ring the bell this time, it is an undeniable fact that since the inception of the Arvind Kejriwal led outfit, the level of political discourse has stooped to a record low.

For far too long, Kejriwal has escaped law for his unaccountable remarks, false allegations, lying through his teeths, failing on giving Delhi a better safer, and cleaner air, cleaner Yamuna, he has escaped law for vitiating Indian politics, lowering the political discourse, for falsely airing alarmist allegations that there is threat to his life even on occasions claiming that the BJP and PM Modi wants to kill him.

This could all end soon, as this time he has brazenly and callously labeled grave allegations hoping that his trusted policy of shoot and scout will come back again to his rescue, but not this time. The self-proclaimed anarchist, Kejriwal may have to face the music of law this time. So, Mr. Kejriwal it’s not the Haryana government that has “poisoned” the Yamuna river water, it is you, Mr Kejriwal who has vitiated, polluted and corrupt Indian politics to the core.
