9th of August, 2024, was the day that shook India to the core. A 31 year old female doctor was brutally raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical Hospital and College in Kolkata. The incident mobilized the nation to demand Justice for its daughter. Witnessing the mass agitation of the protest came Vrinda Grover, one of the highly paid lawyers in the country and announced her service to the victim’s family in fighting the case for their daughter. Well, this surprised many since nobody ever expected Vrinda to jump in support of the victim’s family given the kind of personalities she has earlier offered her legal services to.
The move gained Vrinda acknowledgement from every sphere of the society but as expected water lilies never bloom in December. Senior advocate Vrinda Grover, representing the family of the RG Kar rape and murder victim, withdrew from the case at the Supreme Court, the Calcutta High Court, and the Sealdah trial court. She cited “certain intervening factors and circumstances” as the reason for stepping down. According to reports, her withdrawal was prompted by differences of opinion between the legal team and the victim’s family.
Well, those who would have followed Vrinda Grover may not be surprised with her withdrawal from the case. It’s expected that the RG Kar victim’s family will probably not be interested to work with her considering the people she had been advocating for. Notably, she gave legal services to Nirbhaya’s rapist and alleged fact-checker Alt News’ Mohammed Zubair. For those unversed, Zubair is notorious for peddling trimmed videos to peddle a false Muslim victimhood narrative, dog-whistling and painting a target on Hindus, especially Hindu female activists.
Incidentally, Grover was also the part of the infamous group that wrote a mercy petition for the Pakistani terrorist Ajmal Kasab who was part of the ten terrorist group who launched the barbaric 26/11 Mumbai terror attack that claimed more than 175 lives.

Mercy petition for Ajmal Kasab-
The deadly Mumbai terror attacks unfolded on 26th of November, 2008 when ten Pakistani terrorists armed with AK 47 guns unleashed coordinated attacks across different spots in the city of Mumbai which claimed more than 170 innocent lives and left thousands severely injured. The Mumbai attacks not only revealed the worst face of Pakistan but also highlighted the godly courage our security personnels showed in tackling the terrorist attacks.
Moreover, it revealed the real faces of several so-called intellectuals, lawyers, activists, academicians who internally sympathise with the terror state. On 31st of October, the mercy petition of Ajmal Kasab was signed by many who could not sympathise with hundreds of victims and their families but tears slipped off their reddish-green eyes seeing a Islamic terrorist getting a punishment he truly deserved. Interestingly, senir Advocate Vrinda Sharma was one among the many who signed the mercy petition of Ajmal Kasab.
In fact, Vrindra Grover was also part of the advocate or so-called Eminent personalities battery who filed Mercy petition for other terrorists as well including Yakub Memon and Afzal Guru.
Defending Nirbhaya’s Rapist
The 2012 Delhi gang rape and murder, widely known as the Nirbhaya case, took place on December 16, 2012, in Munirka, South Delhi, and involved a 22-year-old physiotherapy intern who was brutally gang-raped and assaulted on a private bus while traveling with her friend by six men. The case shook the whole nation. While the entire nation wanted the rapists of Nirbhaya to be given the worst punishment known to humankind, Senior Advocate Vrinda Grover represented one of the rapists of Nirbhaya and tried her best of the caliber to get him out.
Offering Legal support to Mohammed Zubair
Back in June, 2022 when Mohammed Zubair notorious for sharing anti-Hindu, Hinduphobic posts online was arrested by the Delhi Police for hurting religious sentiments through derogatory social media posts targeting Hinduism and charged under Sections 153A and 295 of the Indian Penal Code, it was senior advocate Vrinda Grover who offered legal services to Mohammed Zubair.
The FIR was filed following a complaint by Twitter user @balajikijaiin, who shared a screenshot of an old tweet by Zubair mocking Lord Hanuman. In the tweet, @balajikijaiin tagged the Delhi Police, urging them to take action against Zubair for his offensive post against Lord Hanuman, which they claimed hurt the sentiments of Hindus.
Nonetheless, her departure from the RG Kar case should be seen as a blessing in disguise as the saying goes that birds of feathers flock together. While the RG Kar rape and murder case protests have lost their intensity, the nation has kept its watchful eyes on every minute development so that the vested interest groups and sympathisers of terrorists and rapists don’t end up hurting the cause of Abhaya. The Justice for Abhaya movement was, is and will always remain solid behind the aggrived family till the perpators met their fate following the due process of law.
