From Tasleem Rahmani to Priyanka Bharti: Hindu Texts Targeted for TRP, Silence on Other Religions

Priyanka Bharti

The sentiments of Hindus in this country are often neglected. The increasing Hinduphobia in the world is concerning. The hate campaign has taken such an extreme form that the spokesperson of RJD Priyanka Bharti went up to tear Manusmriti in a live debate of India TV.

It is deeply shameful that the media, considered the fourth pillar of democracy, is abandoning its responsibilities and instead spreading venom in society. Rather than focusing on pressing issues like education, health, and development, mainstream media has succumbed to the lure of TRPs, often instigating conflicts between communities. This trend is not new, back in 2022, the nation witnessed the consequences of this sinister game. The inflammatory remarks of extremist Tasleem Rahmani about the Shivling triggered a factual rebuttal by Nupur Sharma. However, the media twisted the narrative, leading to the brutal killing of Kanhaiya Lal and widespread communal tensions.

Now, the media appears to be crafting another “Tasleem Rahmani,” this time in the form of RJD spokesperson Priyanka Bharti. She is frequently invited to debates, seemingly to spew venom against Hindus. On December 18, 2024, during a debate on India TV, Bharti crossed all limits by not only delivering provocative statements against Hindus but also desecrating a religious text on live television.

This isn’t an isolated incident. The RJD has a history of attacking Hindu beliefs. From calling Ramcharitmanas a text that spreads hatred to making bizarre claims about its origins, the party has consistently hurt Hindu sentiments. Priyanka Bharti’s actions tearing a sacred text revered by millions are a continuation of this disturbing pattern. However, one must question whether she would dare criticize other religious texts that demean women or promote extremism.

The larger issue lies with the mainstream media, which provides a platform for such divisive acts. By promoting individuals like Bharti, they are not just undermining Hindu sentiments but also fueling societal discord. If the media does not rise above its TRP-driven agenda and focus on real issues, such as development and education, it risks pushing the nation into an irreparable abyss of division and hatred.

Be it abusing Hindu Gods and Goddesses, calling for annihilation of Sanatan Dharma or burning/tearing down of sacred Hindu text Manusmriti, the religious sentiments are often undermined. In the recent days, Manusmriti has been at the epicenter of the attacks made by the Indian Opposition. From the opposition leader Rahul Gandhi to pseudo Ambedkarites, the opposition have united to target Hindus.
