Apart from the state assembly elections, the results of by-polls for various state assembly elections have been pouring in. The NDA, which has registered a thumping victory in Maharashtra and 7 out of 9 seats in UP by-polls, has swept the by-polls in Bihar and Assam.
A total of four election constituencies of Bihar went to polls and the BJP-led NDA has successfully managed to secure victory. The saffron party has bagged two seats, while its allies, Janata Dal (United) and Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), managed to win one seat a piece. The four assembly seats that went to poll include Ramgarh, Imamganj, Tarari, and Belaganj and the NDA candidates have won all of them.
The Ramgarh constituency saw a close fight between BJP and BSP but saffron party’s Ashok Kumar Singh narrowly edged out his BSP rival Satish Kumar Singh Yadav by 1,362 votes. While Ashok Singh secured 62,257 votes, Satish Yadav garnered 60,895.
Ajeet Kumar Singh, son of RJD state president Jagdanand Singh, finished third with 35,825 votes, failing to make a significant impact despite his high-profile background.
In Tarari, BJP candidate Vishal Prashant triumphed with 78,755 votes, defeating Raju Yadav of the Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), who bagged 68,143 votes.
BJP’s alliance partners JDU and HAM helped NDA increase its tally. Belaganj witnessed a commanding win for JD(U)’s Manorama Devi, who defeated RJD’s Vishwanath Kumar Singh by 21,391 votes. Devi garnered 73,334 votes compared to Singh’s 51,943 whereas in Imamganj, HAM’s Deepa Kumari claimed victory by a margin of 5945 votes with 53,435 votes, beating RJD’s Raushan Kumar by 5,945 votes.
The by-poll election results in favor of NDA will give the alliance confidence before going to polls in the upcoming assembly election of Bihar in 2025.
Moreover, the BJP and its allies have also swept the Assam by-elections. Five Assembly constituencies of Assam including Dholai, Sidli, Bongaigaon, Behali, and Samaguri went to the polls with results of all five landed into the bracket of the NDA alliance led by BJP. Dholai, Behali, and Samaguri seats were bagged by BJP with its candidates Nihar Ranjan Das, Diganta Ghatowal, and Diplu Ranjan Sarmah winning them with 9098, 9051, and 24501 votes respectively. Nirmal Kumar Brahma from the United People’s party and Diptimayee Choudhary from Asom Gana Parishad too added to the NDA tally by winning the seats of Sidli and Bongaigaon.
