The IDF announced they engaged and killed three Hamas terrorists in Gaza including Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar following an airstrike on a building housing the operatives. The soldiers found a body resembling Sinwar.

The IDF and Shin Bet used DNA, dental, and fingerprint tests to confirm his identity. Meanwhile, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant reaffirmed Israel’s commitment to pursuing terrorists, quoting scripture to emphasize their resolve.

Mastermind of October 7 terror attacks on Israel

Yahya Sinwar is considered a pivotal figure in Hamas who took command of Hamas in Gaza in 2017, following the death of former Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh. Sinwar was allegedly the mastermind behind the October 7 terror attacks on Israel, which took over 1,200 lives and resulted in the kidnapping of 251 individuals.

Born in the Khan Younis refugee camp, Sinwar joined Hamas in the 1980s, eventually establishing the group’s internal security division. He was convicted of murdering two Israeli soldiers and four Palestinians he suspected of collaborating with Israel. He was serving four life sentences in an Israeli prison when he was released in a 2011 prisoner exchange deal for IDF soldier Gilad Shalit.

In February this year, the IDF released footage of what it said was Sinwar walking through a Gaza tunnel with several of his family members. IDF Spokesman Daniel Hagaeri said in a press conference upon releasing the footage.“The hunt for Sinwar will not stop until we catch him, dead or alive,”
