Haryana election results: Kisan, Jawan, Pehalwan rejects Congress

The Haryana election results have swung a straight third term for the Bharatiya Janata Party, which has taken many including a section of pollsters, “neutral journalists, psephologists” by surprise as they had been projecting a “big win” for the Congress party. For sure, an in-depth result analysis and the granular factors that ensured this thumping victory for the saffron party will be studied for times to come. It has undoubtedly underscored the fact that the Kisan, Jawan, and Pehalwan have rejected the negative campaigning of the Congress party.

Strikingly, Rahul Gandhi-led Congress, which fought a negative campaign against the BJP, were trying to corner the saffron party on three-pronged fronts – Kisan, Jawan, and Pehalwan. It had been alleging that the farmers and the youth were up against the BJP’s alleged misgovernance, in the country in general and Haryana in particular. In the backdrop that its Lok Sabha tally improved it furthered the smear campaign and falsehoods alleging “threats” on ‘Reservations’ and ‘Constitution’, alleged shortcomings in the Agniveer Scheme, flagship recruitment for the Armed forces, “Jalebi factories” for Rojgar issue of the youth.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is poised to secure a third consecutive term in Haryana, having won 48 seats in the assembly elections, while the Congress party follows with 37 seats. The two parties have been engaged in a tough battle in the state and both were waiting with baited breath as the counting of votes began at 8 am. The early trends available on TV channels showed the Congress ahead of the BJP, but the public has given an outright verdict in favour of the BJP. In the end the ruling party made the necessary strides and outstripped its rivals achieving a historic third term in the state.
