Bahraich communal attack on Durga Procession: Police arrest five in Gopal Mishra’s murder after an encounter

In the latest development in the Bahraich communal attack on the Durga Procession, Sarfaraz, the prime accused in Ram Gopal Mishra’s murder was engaged in an encounter by UP Police on Thursday. According to reports, five accused have been arrested after the Bahraich encounter.

On Thursday, Police said that two of the accused, who allegedly killed 22-year-old Ram Gopal Mishra during violence in Uttar Pradesh’s Bahraich have been shot at during an encounter. Police added that the accused, Sarfaraz alias Rinku and Fahim were shot at during the encounter that broke out near the Handa Basehri Canal near the international border when they were trying to flee to Nepal.

This came after violence erupted in UP’s Bahraich on Sunday following the stone pelting and murder of Mishra during the Durga idol immersion procession.

Tensions have been high in the city of Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, days after stones were pelted on the immersion procession of Maa Durga and the murder of a young Hindu man named Ram Gopal Mishra.

After the incident, UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a big meeting and sent ADG Law and Order and STF Chief Amitabh Yash to Bahraich to control the deteriorating situation. Yogi Adityanath is constantly monitoring the situation. He also met and assured Justice to the aggrieved family of Gopal Mishra.
