India on Monday strongly objected the comparison of Indian Muslims with those of living in Gaza – the war-torn zone – by Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and said his comments concerning the community are “unacceptable”.
“We strongly deplore the comments made regarding minorities in India by the Supreme Leader of Iran,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in an official statement.
“These are misinformed and unacceptable. Countries commenting on minorities are advised to look at their own record before making any observations about others,” it added.
Earlier in the day on the birth anniversary of Prophet Mohammed, the Iranian leader in a post on X had said, “Can’t be oblivious to the suffering that a Muslim is enduring in Myanmar, Gaza, India”.
“The enemies of Islam have always tried to make us indifferent with regard to our shared identity as an Islamic Ummah,” Khamenei added.
