The latest episode in this saga involves the controversial collapse of a statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in Sindhudurg, and Congress’s reaction to it.
The incident began with the fall of Shivaji Maharaj’s statue, which spurred a massive political uproar. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alongside Maharashtra leaders Eknath Shinde and Devendra Fadnavis, found themselves under attack from Congress. Former Union Minister and BJP leader Narayan Rane added fuel to the fire by asserting that Shivaji Maharaj indeed looted Surat, based on his readings and historical interpretations. This has led to a fresh wave of allegations and political theater.
Congress, led by Rahul Gandhi, seized the moment to criticize the BJP, accusing them of negligence and disrespect towards historical figures. Gandhi, addressing a rally in Maharashtra, took the opportunity to denounce the BJP’s handling of the statue incident and emphasize the restoration of Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy. This is not the first time Congress has used historical issues to fuel their agenda. Modi emphasized that the Maratha king represents the valor and spirit that India holds in high regard. His address highlighted the stark difference between his administration’s approach and Congress’s attempts to disparage patriotic figures like Veer Savarkar, a figure Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had previously insulted, leading to a defamation suit by Savarkar’s descendants.
Amidst this turmoil, Modi also focused on a positive milestone: the laying of the foundation stone for the Vadhavan Port in Palghar. This ambitious project, with an investment of over Rs 76,000 crore, aims to become India’s largest deep-water port and is a testament to Maharashtra’s and India’s economic progress. Modi’s speech underscored his administration’s commitment to both honoring India’s rich cultural heritage and driving national development.
