The Pune Police have taken significant action against the father and grandfather of a teenager involved in the tragic May 19 car accident. These individuals are now implicated in a separate, serious case of abetment of suicide concerning the son of a local businessman. This development was revealed by officials, indicating a deeper investigation into the involved family’s activities.
Complaint by DS Kature
Local businessman DS Kature filed a formal complaint against the teenager’s father and grandfather, along with three other individuals. He accused them of being responsible for the suicide of his son, Shashikant Kature, who tragically ended his life in January of this year. According to the police complaint, Shashikant had been under severe distress due to relentless harassment from one of the accused, from whom he had borrowed money for his construction business. Shashikant had been unable to repay the loan, which led to persistent harassment, ultimately driving him to commit suicide.
This case underscores the severe impact of financial pressure and harassment on mental health. Shashikant’s suicide prompted a thorough investigation by the police, who initially registered a case of abetment under IPC sections 306 and 506 at the Chandannagar police station.
Investigation and Additional Charges
A senior police official from Pune explained that during the ongoing investigation into the car accident involving the minor, the teen’s grandfather had approached the police. This interaction brought to light the involvement of the teen’s father, grandfather, and three others in the abetment of Shashikant’s suicide.
Consequently, the police decided to include these individuals in the abetment of suicide FIR and expanded the charges by adding sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) of the IPC. The investigation is ongoing, with police working diligently to gather all relevant evidence and testimonies.
