Trudeau bites dust in gathering “international support” against India

Justin Trudeau, the Canadian Prime Minister, finds himself in a situation of literal embarrassment as he scrambles for international support following his recent remarks against India. Much like his virtual boycott at the G20 summit held in India, Trudeau’s efforts to garner backing from Western allies have proven futile.

US media reports have shed light on Trudeau’s abject failure in securing any support from Western allies to join him in labeling absurd allegations against India. According to a report in the Washington Post, Canada’s Western allies have repeatedly refused to be drawn into or be a part of Trudeau’s “foreign interference” narrative.

The report reveals that Trudeau had been pursuing this baseless anti-India allegation for weeks. Behind the scenes, he had made several requests with allied nations before publicly airing his mischievous accusation against India.

One of Trudeau’s requests involved urging Western allies to come on the same page and issue a joint statement condemning the killing of Khalistani terrorist Nijjar as a contravention of international norms. The Washington Post report stated, “In recent months, Canada began pushing its closest allies, the members of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network… to raise Nijjar’s killing with India at the highest levels of government and issue a joint statement condemning the act as contravening international norms, said a Western official who spoke on the condition of anonymity because of diplomatic sensitivities.”

However, all of Canada’s Western allies, including the United States, declined his request and dismissed it. After failing to rally the West against India and in the aftermath of his disastrous visit to India, Trudeau chose to level the allegations alone in Parliament on Monday, September 18th.

Despite being members of the Five-Eyes intelligence-sharing group, none of Canada’s Western allies has given much credence to Trudeau’s allegations. Instead, they have diplomatically buried his ridiculous foreign interference narrative and Nijjar’s killing, providing Trudeau with a momentary saving grace.

In the current scenario, powerful nations are hesitant to antagonize India due to its rising economic and political power. Australian PM Anthony Albanese, for instance, was reluctant to be drawn into the issue at a media conference in Melbourne, adding that no one should speculate about intelligence.

Likewise, the UK has maintained its stance that it won’t halt its trade talks with India over such an issue. In fact, Western allies have continued their bilateral deals and strategic partnerships with India, paying little heed to Trudeau’s allegations. Their response can be summed up as “noted, now move on.” Reports suggest that they intend to continue the trajectory of their diplomatic ties with India.

In this era of shifting global dynamics, nations are prioritizing their interests and relationships wisely. India’s growing significance on the global stage, both economically and politically, has made it a crucial partner for many countries. Consequently, they are reluctant to be drawn into disputes that lack substantial evidence and risk harming their relations with India.

Trudeau’s attempts to rally Western allies against India have not only failed but also highlighted the importance of diplomatic prudence and adherence to facts in international relations. Quest of Trudeau for international support against India has yielded little to no results, as his allegations lack credibility and evidence. Western allies have chosen to prioritize their diplomatic ties with India over his baseless accusations, signaling their recognition of India’s growing significance in the global arena. As the world’s economic and political landscape continues to evolve, maintaining positive relations with key partners like India is becoming increasingly crucial for nations around the world.
