In recent times, India has been grappling with the menace of extremism, fueled by radical elements causing unrest and violence across the nation. The Uttar Pradesh (UP) model of action, implemented by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in 2019 to counter extremists during the CAA protests, has proven to be a decisive approach in maintaining law and order. Now, the Haryana government has also taken a page from this playbook, applying the UP model to deal with terrorists in Nuh, a district infamous for its recent communal clashes.
The recent communal clash in Nuh that resulted in six fatalities and numerous arrests compelled the Haryanvi government to take a tough stance against the perpetrators. The UP model involves swift and assertive actions, combining measures like the use of bulldozers to demolish illegal structures, extensive arrests, and encounters, if necessary, to quell the unrest and maintain peace.
One key aspect of the UP-model’s success is the swift and extensive arrests made in connection with the violence. As of now, over 200 individuals have been arrested, and 80 others placed in preventive detention.
In addition to arrests, illegal structures that were used as bases for violent activities were demolished, effectively dismantling their stronghold. As of now, more than 600 such illegal establishments, most of which were used to ransack the district by the Islamic extremists, were razed to the ground. By doing so, the district administration has demonstrated that it will not allow illegal establishments to serve as launching pads for any form of extremism.

Furthermore, the decision to station a permanent camp of the Rapid Action Force in the Mewat region showcases the government’s commitment to tackling issues like cyber scams and Islamic radicalization effectively. This move is essential in preventing such regions from becoming breeding grounds for extremism and ensuring the safety and security of the people.
The UP-model’s implementation in Haryana has also resulted in holding political leaders accountable for their actions. A murder case has been filed against AAP Haryana leader Javed Ahmed for his involvement in the violence that led to the death of a Bajrang Dal member. Additionally, the security of Congress MLA Mamman Khan has been withdrawn due to allegations of instigating rioters during the Nuh violence. This highlights the government’s impartiality and commitment to upholding the rule of law, regardless of political affiliations.

While some critics argue that the UP model may be too aggressive, it is crucial to recognize that desperate times call for decisive action. The recent events in Nuh demanded a robust response to ensure that the situation does not escalate further. The government’s commitment to ensuring that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice demonstrates their resolve to maintain peace and harmony in the region.
While it may be a tough approach, it is the need of the hour to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens and to deter any further attempts to disrupt peace in the region. With the implementation of these measures, we hope that the terrorists trying to create unrest in Nuh will be apprehended and justice will be served, creating a safer and more secure environment for all.
