Can Gadar 2 Beat “Pathaan”? Oh yes it can!

Gadar 2 Box office collection: Quite ironic. In the blaze of Pushpa Raj and Rocky Bhai, we forgot our very own legend that has been Tara Singh. However, one “Gadar 2” and everyone is going gaga over Sunny Paaji again. However, there are also reports that “Gadar 2” may even beat the so called Pathaan, theoretically the biggest hit of 2023!

Numbers don’t lie!

To be honest, even if reviewers lie, numbers don’t. Ever since the release, Gadar 2 has hardly fallen below 20 crores, and that is in the opening week itself. As per the latest figures, Gadar 2 has touched a staggering mark of more than 250 crores, with a 6-day collection of Rs. 261.35 crores, and a humongous collection of Rs. 336.85 crores worldwide!

Now for those, who wonder whether “Gadar 2” will succeed Pathaan. It may not do so worldwide, but the Anil Sharma directorial has a realistic chance of beating “Pathaan” domestically. The movie has a literal free run for almost a month, with the next big release only being “Jawaan’, which releases on 7th September, and unless and until “Dream Girl 2” turns out to be a miracle, it is Tara Paaji, who takes the lion’s share from the Indian box office, especially that of Bollywood.

A win against all odds!

This victory is even more remarkable, if we count the odds stacked against “Gadar 2”. To begin with, people had written off Sunny Deol as an ‘actor beyond his prime’. He was not just facing competitors like Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar, whose films “Jailer” and “OMG 2” were competing against him.

Next, compared to “Pathaan”, which had the screens, as well as the reviewers in their pocket, “Gadar 2” didn’t have any such luxury. Compared to a film of its calibre, “Gadar 2” was allotted merely 4500 screens at the maximum, way below the 8000 worldwide screen count of “Pathaan”.

Interestingly, much like its predecessor, a concerted campaign was launched to downplay “Gadar 2”. Many self-proclaimed reviewers claimed that the movie was just a cash grab like “Adipurush”, with zero focus on Sunny Deol, and more focus on Utkarsh Sharma. Well, the public knows the truth now!

Infinity is the limit!

As of now, “Gadar 2” is well on its way to enter the 300-crore club domestically by the end of the opening week. With no major film in sight, the movie has a realistic chance at pummeling “Pathaan” and its so-called collection of Rs. 543 crores. However, 543 crores from 5000 screens in India, with audience that is present only in the articles written in praise of “Pathaan”, seems rather unlikely.

However, in “Gadar 2”, there is no such case. The film has been a rage in states like Rajasthan, UP, Gujarat, Bihar etc. Some single screens theatres are being booked for weeks, if not months. Some theatres are offering 24×7 shows in order to satiate the burgeoning demand. If the movie was really that bad, as said by some so-called critics, then how come such revenues are piling up?

All it took was Tara Singh and his iconic handpump to rewrite the history of Indian cinema, just the way he did 22 years ago!
