Virat Kohli is now “Kannada Gaurav” and Congress’ last desperate attempt

Karnataka Congress

Imagine there are folks screaming “Staap Hinthi Imposition!”, “My State my pride!” on the top of their lungs, every single moment. Then, to make their ends meet, they make a celebrity their icon, who is not remotely from their region, by either blood or origin. Trust Karnataka Congress to be this desperate.

Know in thw article   the new “Kannada Gaurav”, Virat Kohli, and how Karnataka Congress is ready to anoint him with this title for their own benefit. So, what are you waiting for?

Opportunism’s new name: Congress?

When IPL is going on, and there is no controversy, that’s strange, isn’t it? As the match between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore came to a close, the match was lesser known for the low scoring thriller, and more for the post-match clash between Naveen ul Haq and Virat Kohli, which almost triggered a brutal fight between the coach of LSG, Gautam Gambhir, and Virat Kohli.

The clash has since been subject to various posts, memes as the list goes on. But what none of us anticipated even in their wildest dreams was the way Congress would capitalize on this ‘opportunity’.

They alleged that BJP is misusing their power to insult the Kannada community, whose representative is Virat Kohli, and hence this clash is deliberate, and must be condemned in every way possible.

Anything for power

Yes, you heard that right. Congress supporters tried to use the long-running feud between the duo to get some votes for the Congress party during the Karnataka Assembly elections. The latest war of words between the two Indian stalwarts came following the conclusion of the IPL match between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on Monday, May 2.

The Congress supporters targeted Gautam Gambhir and alleged that the player had dragged politics into games after joining the Bharatiya Janata Party and Karnataka voters should teach Gambhir a lesson by not voting for BJP in the upcoming elections.

To begin with, former national spokesperson of Congress party Sanjay Jha blabbered, “Gautam Gambhir played for India. But after joining the BJP, he has degenerated into a standard political bully. What happened after yesterday’s IPL match was deplorable. Is it the forthcoming rout in Karnataka that is making BJP leaders froth at the mouth?”

Well, that’s understandable, given how the Grand Old Party is fighting so desperately to save their non-existent fortress in the state. However, what is clearly not understandable is the way hardened regionalists are claiming the ownership of Virat Kohli.

Twitter user Archana Pawar also alleged that Gautam Gambhir had deliberately portrayed his arrogance on the field and had threatened Kannadiga’s pride. “Has Modiji given him right to do so? such player shud not be selected for any team. On May 13th, Karnataka will undoubtedly teach them a lesson,” she added in the tweet.

Another supporter tweeted, “BJP leader Gambhir has insulted 7 crore Kannadigas when he insulted our most beloved captain Kohli. Hope people of Karnataka give befitting reply to BJP on election day”. By this logic, don’t be surprised if MS Dhoni is claimed as the next “Thalapathy” in the wake of 2026 assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.

Will Congress make it?

One Congress supporter also alleged that the BJP MP had issued threats to the Kannadigas pride RCB’s Virat Kohli. “A BJP MP threatening Kannadigas pride RCB’s Virat Kohli. The People of Karnataka are ready to teach them a lesson on 13th May,” he said.

Well, one must appreciate the tenacity of the Congress IT Cell at this moment. Don’t underestimate them, these folks have done it all to make sure that their party, which is so unified that there are four claimants to the CM chair, are giving it their all to make the party win, ignoring the pleas of local leaders to not let superstar Rahul Gandhi do the campaigning on their behalf.

Also, it seems that Kannadiga pride, something for which regionalists like Siddaramaiah or DK Shivakumar were even ready to sacrifice their lives for, has now decide to adjust some place for Virat Kohli. After all, RCB and Congress are alike: Grand Presentation, Remarkable Players, who choke when everyone needs them the most.
