These days, the “Files” genre of films is the talk of the town. Following the surprise success of Abhishek Agarwal’s “The Kashmir Files”, every other filmmaker is trying their luck in bringing out the untold truths of several Indian provinces, with “The Kerala Story” and the upcoming “The Delhi Files” to name a few.
However, the tale doesn’t end here. While the list may be infinite, here are some case files, that must be uncovered, so that the public knows the unadulterated truth, and not what some self-professed intellectuals want you to read:
1) Bengal Files:
Well, this state deserve infinite web series to be honest. However, if one makes a series of films on the same, that won’t be unfair either, kind of Bengal Files Universe to be honest.
Once one of the most prosperous states of India, both economically and culturally, Bengal is a shadow of what it was in the past. Be it the excesses of the Communist regime, or the appeasement politics promoted by the ruling TMC government, there are so many stories that deserve equal attention.

If one makes a movie series, on let’s say the illegal immigration in Bengal, and how the normal citizens have nothing to call their own, it is enough to make many heads roll.
2) Punjab Files:
Like Bengal, this state deserves a barrage of films / web series of their own. Like Bengal, there was a time when this state produced almost everything, from prosperous economic models to Olympic champions, even revolutionaries to be honest.
However, with the rise of Bhindranwale, everything turned for the worse. Even today, none in the film industry can claim to have depicted the true story of Punjab. While “CAT” did make an honest attempt, it was still a fictional story.

However, the turbulent times between 1978 and the late 90s is enough to give several web series and films, that can shake the very core of both Indian politics and the intelligentsia. Imagine, if someone attempts to portray how Punjab Police, under the leadership of KPS Gill decided to go for the kill. Whatever outrage happened against ‘The Kashmir Files’ would seem insignificant.
3) Gujarat Files:
Now that we’ve spoken of outrage, how can we miss Gujarat? For more than two decades, the Khan market cartel of intellectuals have been crying for justice, w.r.t. the Gujarat carnage of 2002. We wholly understand their pain, and we understand that the truth must come out.
However, the pertinent question remains: Are they even ready for it? If we really cover the real “Gujarat Files”, will the liberals be able to welcome the truth with open arms? Given their concern for Ishrat Jahan, and the way officials like RB Sreekumar and Sanjeev Bhatt were ready to bend their law, just to appease their masters, it seems rather unlikely. ‘
However, if even a fraction of the truth is shown in the real “Gujarat Files”, there is one thing for sure: the hysteria that these folks developed with “The Kashmir Files”, will grow manifold, and these folks might even sue the makers for “mental harassment”.
4) Goa Files:
Now this is one potential series, that can destroy the very notion of Congress being patriotic. India became independent in 1947, and yet for 14 years, the independent government of India under PM Nehru couldn’t gather enough courage to liberate the one state, that was under foreign occupation for more than 4 centuries.
Very few people have focused on the way Indians had to suffer under the Portuguese rule, whether at the hands of the clergy or even the Portuguese imperialists. People like St. Francis, Alfons de Alburqueque will have their carefully crafted legacies destroyed even if one story showing the way Portuguese imposed their barbaric rule over Indians is portrayed on screen.
Even a story on how Indian armed forces were almost denied an opportunity to liberate Goa can be portrayed, and that would destroy even a semblance of credibility Congress party had.
5) North East Files:
Now there is a region, which has a significant place in our Indian history, and yet, has been neglected for decades, the North East.
But why the need for North East Files? There have been several attempts to cut this part off from the rest of India. Interestingly, the curious nexus between radicalism and Christian missionaries is something not many would dare to show without any bias.
To be honest, each of the regions deserve several films, that can destroy all the pre conceived notions about India, and present an unconventional, unadulterated take on the same!
