Menal Siva Temple – Guide

One of the most famous temples of Chittorgarh, Menal Siva Temple is situated at a distance of 90 km from Chittorgarh and about 70 km from Bundi, which is also known by its old name Mahanaleshwar Temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Menal Shiva Temple is also popular as Mini-Khajuraho Temple. The Menal Temple is an 11^th-century wonder that is definitely worth a visit.

History of this Temple

One of the most famous temples of Menal is the Siva temple which was built in the 11^th century AD by King Someshwar Chamhana and his wife, Queen Suhavadevi. It is said that this Shiva temple was often visited by Prithviraj Chauhan during summers to escape the oppressive heat of Rajasthan.

Menal Siva Temple is built of stone with intricately carved pillars and a pagoda, in which the idol of Shiva is installed. Like all Shiva temples, this temple also has an idol of Nandi at the entrance. And some of the Khajuraho temple like paintings have also been done in the temple which makes it popular as mini-Khajuraho temple.

The most famous festival celebrated in this temple is Mahashivaratri in the month of February or March and shravan month during the August or September.

Menal Siva Temple Timings

Menal Siva Temple opens at 9:00 AM in the morning and close at 7:00 PM in the evening. Morning aarti is performed at 10:00 AM in the morning and evening aarti is performed at 6:00 PM in the evening.

This wildlife sanctuary is located at a distance of about few kms away from the temple. Here different varieties of animals are seen.

Padmini Palace

This palace is built for the queen Padmini. This palace is located at a distance of about few kms away from the temple.

By Air- The nearest airport from Menal Siva Temple is Udaipur airport which is at a distance of about 180 km away from the temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Train- The nearest railway station from Menal Siva Temple is Bhilwara railway station which is located at a distance of 72 km away from the temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Road- Chittorgarh is well connected by road to major cities of Rajasthan like Udaipur, Jaipur, Jodhpur etc. And Neighboring states. Regular bus service is available from major cities of Rajasthan to Chittorgarh. You can also reach to Menal Shiv Temple by your private car, taxi or buses.
