History of this Temple
Eklingji Temple Udaipur was built in 734 AD by Bappa Rawal. Eklingji has been the deity of Mewar rulers. The temple and idol of Ekling Nathji were destroyed during the invasion by the rulers of the Delhi Sultanate. After which some kings contributed to the reconstruction of this temple. In the late 15th century, Ghiyath Shah of the Malwa Sultanate invaded Mewar and destroyed Eklingji again. After some time Kumbh’s son Rana Raimal defeated Ghiyath Shah and obtained a ransom for his release. With this ransom Raimal patronized the last major reconstruction of the temple complex, and reinstalled the present idol in the main temple.
