There is a famous temple of Mata Vajreshwari Devi also known as Nagarkot Mata Mandir located in Kangra, Himachal Pradesh. This place is also popularly known as Nagarkot Kangde Wali Devi or Nagarkot Mata Mandir. Without visiting here the journey is not considered successful. Young people attacked here many times, yet this place remained intact due to the glory of Vajreshwari Devi. This place is considered to be one of the 51 Shaktipeeths where Sati’s breast had fallen in Kangra. This is the place of Sri Tara Devi

History of this Temple

The history of Kangda Dham and Nagarkot Mata Mandir Kangra is considered very ancient. The city of Susharmapur, named after King Susharma, is the very ancient name of Kangra. Whose mention is also found in Mahabharata. Its name was Nagarkot at the time of Mahmud Ghaznavi’s invasion.

Kot means fort i.e. the city where the fort is. Trigarta region is the name of Kangda during Mahabharata. The literal meaning of Kangda is – Kan+garh i.e. the fort built on the ear. According to legend, this ear belongs to the Jalandhar demon. A demon named Jalanr fought fiercely with the deities for many years.

Shri Kripaleshwar Mahadev Temple

This is a very ancient temple. Where Lord Shiva is seen in the form of Kripalali Bhairav. Shiva resides in some form or the other at every place of Mata.

Kurukshetra Kund

Bathing in this pool brings salvation to the forefathers and increases wealth, grain and progeny in the family. By taking a bath in the pool on the occasion of solar eclipse, the sins of three births are destroyed.

Baba Virbhadra Temple

This temple is situated at a distance of about one kilometer from Kangda. This beautiful temple built in the name of Lord Shiva’s Gana Virbhadra is a witness to ancient history. When King Daksha disrespected Lord Shankar, the husband of Sati Parvati by organizing a Yagya, Sati sacrificed her body in the Yagya Kund.

Achhara Mata (Sahastradhara) 

At a distance of four kilometers from Shri Kangda Temple, this place is built in a cave in the hill near Baan Ganga, a little ahead of Gupta Ganga. Where many streams of water fall. The main water stream falls from a height of about 25 feet.

By Train- The nearest railway station from Nagarkot Mata Mandir is Kangra railway station which is at a distance of about few kms from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Road- Roads to this temple are well connected with the other cities of the country so you can easily reach this temple by using your own vehicle or by any public buses or taxi from any part of the country.
