Mahamrityunjay Mahadev Mandir is one of the most holy temple of lord Shiva which is situated in the city of Varanasi. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and is located on the way from Darnagar to Kalabhairav ​​Temple. There is an ancient well here which has religious significance and its water is believed to cure many diseases.

History of this Temple

The history of Varanasi Mahamrityunjay Mahadev Mandir is related to an ancient well and Shivling. The word Mrityunjaya Mahadev means the Lord who is victorious over death. It is believed that the Shivling in this temple keeps all the devotees away from their unnatural death. Lord Shiva is worshiped as Mrityunjaya Mahadev by the devotees for his victory over unnatural death.

It is believed that it is a mixture of many underground water streams and has miraculous effect to cure many diseases. Another story behind the miraculous well is that “Dhanvantari” who was the Father of Ayurveda has put all his medicine in that well, that’s why the water of this well is holy and capable of curing various types of diseases along with their medicinal effect.

Varanasi Mahamrityunjay Mahadev Mandir opens at 4:00 AM in the morning and close at 12:00 AM in the midnight. Aarti is performed three times in this temple as 5:30 AM in the morning, 6:30 PM in the evening and 11:30 PM in the night.
