Xylazine: The citizens of the US always boast of being the greatest in the world and they certainly have achieved remarkable successes in multiple areas. Most notably, they have dared to explore territories other countries still fail to traverse, such as the alarming rate of school children engaging in lethal shootings on the streets and in educational institutions. Just recently, a television journalist was shot dead while reporting a murder in Florida.

Now, reports from Philadelphia indicate that people are taking a drug named Xylazine which is causing them to behave like zombies.
Zombie virus: New threat for the world
In 2021, xylazine’s prevalence in lab-tested drug samples in Philadelphia increased the risk of overdoses by 90% when combined with other illegal drugs. Xylazine, known as “tranq,” is commonly used to enhance the effects of opioids, such as fentanyl. It has caused fatal consequences like skin decay in cities across the US.
Despite being approved by the FDA for veterinary use, it has been found in fentanyl and other illegal drugs. Last December, the “zombie virus” conspiracy theory emerged after viral videos showed people acting strangely on US streets, which turned out to be drug-related.

Repeated use of the drug can cause raw wounds on the skin that can spread and lead to amputation if left untreated. Xylazine, a non-opioid, is particularly dangerous as it can prevent a person from responding to naloxone or Narcan, the most commonly used antidote for overdose.

Fatal Drug Overdoses Reach New Highs
Substance abusers alleged that this new drug has eliminated “any form of joy” associated with using drugs.
“Tranq is basically zombifying people’s bodies,” 28-year-old Sam told Sky News. “Until nine months ago, I never had wounds. Now, there are holes in my legs and feet.”
According to the New York City Department of Health, 2,668 people in New York died from its overdose in 2021. Experts believe xylazine might make the country’s current drug epidemic worse.
