Narendra Modi speech: At times, Politics can yield a lot more entertainment than a power packed thriller film can offer. It can make impossible things possible and entail more twists and turns than a well-made action-packed thriller movie. The Prime Minister’s address in Lok Sabha seems to have sowed the seeds for an impending twist of fate for the Congress party.
Congress on Edge after PM’s Remarks
Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently delivered a speech in Lok Sabha to rebut the opposition’s charges and share the non-exhaustive list of accomplishments of his government. In his speech, PM Narendra Modi targeted the Congress-led UPA regime. He referred to the 10-year period of the UPA era as a “lost decade” for the country.
But things took an interesting turn when the Congress party, after indulging in incessant hackling and ruckus, staged a walkout from the Parliament. Several opposition MPs including Adheer Ranjan Chaudhary and Shashi Tharoor walked out during PM Modi’s reply on the Motion. A short while later, PM Modi stopped his address to extend his gratitude to Congress MP Shashi Tharoor for returning to the House.
Stopping his address midway, PM Modi remarked, “Thank you Shashi ji”.
The fact that PM Modi “thanked” Congress MP Shashi Tharoor was a rare moment of camaraderie between the leaders of opposite sides of the spectrum. The appreciative remark fuelled jibes from the BJP ranks.

BJP MPs taunted the Congress party on this episode stating, “Congress ka batwara ho gaya.” (Congress has split)
The show of camaraderie was not a one-way street. On his part, Tharoor praised speech of Prime Minister Narendra Modi while toeing the party line, for the time being. Speaking to the media outside the house, Tharoor said, “PM Narendra Modi gave a good speech but he didn’t answer any of the questions that were asked by the Opposition.”
The past antecedents
Last time when such a thing happened, veteran Congress leader Ghulam Navi Azad parted ways with Congress. Evidently, PM Narendra Modi gave an emotional speech during his farewell session. The events that unfurled after that are before everyone to see.

This was not a one-off incidence of camaraderie between the two leaders or when Shashi Tharoor has gone past or even against the dictates of Congress Party. During the election of party President, Shashi Tharoor openly criticised the top brass for their brazzen bias against him for the top post. Post-election, Congress and Shashi Tharoor have many times seen on a totally different page.
In Congress, the glass ceiling of Gandhi scion has annoyed many talented leaders forcing them to quit from the party. Now, it will be seen whether this interesting moment of camaraderie in the Parliament snowball further or not.
