Khallari Mata Mandir Chhattisgarh – Guide

Khallari is a Village in Mahasamund District of Chhattisgarh State. The Jagannath temple is situated here. This monument is protected by the State of Chhattisgarh. Khallari is situated at a distance of about 80 km from the capital Raipur. Here is the Mandir of Mata Khallari Devi. This temple is situated on a mountain in Khallari village.

People have a lot of faith in this place. For the first time in the year 1940, stairs were constructed here. 850 steps have been constructed to reach the Khallari Mata Mandir. After this, construction works continued here from time to time. In the year 1985, for the first time, lighting of Jyoti Kalash started during Navratri.

History of this Temple

It is believed that the Mahabharata period was ruled by the demon Hidimb, who was killed by Bhima. Hindimb’s sister Hindiba got married at this place after being impressed by Bhima’s form and strength. The ancient name of Khallari was Mritkagarh, Khalvatika.

When the Lahari branch of Kalchuri dynasty was established in Raipur, their initial capital was Khallari. In 1409 AD, during the period of Bramhadeva Rai, the capital was shifted from Khallari to Raipur. During the period of Bramhadeva Raya, Devpal Namak Mochi got the Vishnu temple constructed at Khallari in 1415 AD.

When you wander in the mountains. Then you will see the Lion Cave. It is said that when there was no movement of people here, then the lion used to reside in this mountain.

Shri Ram Smriti Upvan

There is a very beautiful park at the bottom of the hill. Which is called Shri Ram Smriti Upvan. Very few people know this park. Trees and plants related to Ayurveda are planted in this garden.
