Bhoramdev Mandir Chhattisgarh – Guide

Bhoramdev Mandir is an ancient temple located in Chauragaon, Kabirdham district of Chhattisgarh, which is believed to be about 1000 years old. The Bhoramdeo temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, which was built in 1089 AD by the Faninag dynasty ruler Gopal Dev. The structure of this temple is similar to that of Konark Temple and Khujraho, due to which Bhoramdev Temple is also popularly known as Khujraho of Chhattisgarh. The temple also portrays the images of the ten avatars of Lord Vishnu, apart from the images of Lord Shiva and Lord Ganesha.

History of this Temple

According to the discovery made by the Historical and Archaeological Department and the inscriptions found here, the history of Bhoramdev Mandir Chhattisgarh is believed to be of Kalchuri period between 10th to 12th century. The credit for the construction of the Bhoramdeo temple has been given to Laxman Deva Rai and Gopal Deva of the Faninga dynasty. The temple complex is often referred to as a “poem carved in stone”. The Gond tribals of this region worshiped Lord Shiva, whom they called Bhoramdev, hence the temple came to be known as Bhoramdev Temple.
