History of this Temple
Bhavnagar Khodiyar Mata is believed to be a warrior Hindu goddess who was born around 700 AD as a member of the Charan caste. She is said to be the daughter of Mamad Ji Charan, who was blessed with seven daughters and one son by Lord Shiva and Nagdev. One of the daughters was Khodiyar Mata, who has temples across Gujarat, Rajasthan and Mumbai.
Bhavnagar Khodiyar Mata Mandir was built by Maharaja Vakhatsinhji Gohil, who ruled the Bhavnagar state from 1748 to 1816. He was a devotee of Khodiyar Mata. Once he prayed to the goddess to appear in her physical form in Sehore, the capital of Bhavnagar.
