Barelvis and Khadims clash: Maulvi sponsored radicalization is a termite to Islam

Barelvis and Khadims clash

Religion has always been a sensitive topic in contemporary culture. “Rivalry” or “fight” are some of the first words that come to our minds during this narrative. However, in the aftermath of brawling inter-religiously, we often witness an intra-religious quarrel. Sadly, this is not a new thing for us, right? And this time, it’s a clash between Barelvis and Khadims.

The intra- religious quarrel

As per various media reports, recently, a stampede-like situation took place at Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti’s dargah at Ajmer in Rajasthan. On January 28, 2023, a clash broke out between two Muslim groups on the sixth night of the annual Urs, a festival to mark the death anniversary of a Sufi fakir. The ruckus took place after the Barelvi sect raised slogans in favour of their faction.

Following this, an FIR has been lodged on the complaint of Khadims, and one person has been detained. Additionally, a police force has also been deployed at the dargah to avoid further escalation of the clash.

The viral video of the incident shows the two sides beating each other. The video was tweeted by Syed Subhani Siraji, who called it hooliganism and also demanded action from the Police. To address the issue, the Rajasthan Police Headquarters has ordered the Ajmer Police to share information about the current situation.

Moreover, as per the OpIndia report, the security volunteers in blue uniforms who were on duty for the security of Khadims and the dargah fled from the spot during the ruckus. To avoid the assault, the Khadims took asylum in the Shahjahani Mosque.

Additionally, according to the police, they have not received any written complaint from either side. There is peace being maintained on the spot currently, and the police force has been deployed to avoid a further quarrel.

Noticeably, we often come across incidents of maulvis conspiring against other religions. They often throw light on the bad deeds of others that occur in their imaginary worlds. Most often, they tend to disgrace the Hindu religion in particular. But the question remains about their sudden disappearance during their intra- religious fight. There have been numerous incidents of Muslims issuing an open threat to Hindus.

According to an OpIndia report, AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan had earlier issued an open death threat and called for the beheading of Swamy Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati.

In a tweet, Khan said, “We can not tolerate such impertinence for our beloved Prophet Muhammad. This hateful insect should be awarded the most severe punishment by slitting his tongue and neck. But the law of the land does not permit us to do this, we have faith in the Indian constitution, and I want Delhi Police to take note of this.”

In 2012, Controversial AIMIM MLA and Asaduddin Owaisi’s brother, reiterated a highly inflammatory speech asking to remove the police for 15 minutes so that he could finish off 100 crores Hindus. In 2019 too, while repeating his ’15 minutes’ of provocative speech, Akbaruddin Owaisi resorted to fear-mongering and attempted to provoke violence against Hindus by raking up the issues of alleged lynchings against minorities.

Not just this, a clash between two Muslim sects or groups is also not a new phenomenon for us anymore.  According to Pew Research, in four of the five countries surveyed, sizable percentages of both Shias and Sunnis are concerned about sectarian conflict.

Two-thirds of all Muslims in Lebanon describe sectarian tensions as a very big problem in their country. The situation remains concerning in Iran, Iraq, and Afghanistan as well. Islamic fundamentalists are spreading radicalization and are bringing disgrace to the faith.
