Charles Parton report: While nations across the world have remained in a deep state of slumber, China has advanced its lead in the domain of information warfare (IW). It wants to gain an unassailable advantage before democratic nations start to ponder about their responses. For this, it is doing everything possible to further its evil designs, be it evading privacy, espionage, or data harvesting.

The threat of Chinese spying on the world through the extended arms of the CCP—Chinese companies throughout the world—is not a distant possibility but a harsh reality of the current times. A former UK diplomat, Charles Parton, has highlighted this unavoidable threat to the world.
Recently, Charles Parton submitted a report to the UK government. Through the report, he has warned nations against the imminent Chinese threat. He emphasised that China is audaciously conducting mass surveillance on common people through refrigerators, laptops, and even light bulbs.

Charles Parton report holds significant value for the reason that he knows China inside and out. He spent nearly 22 years of his diplomatic career working in China, Taiwan, and Hong Kong. Previously, he advised the UK Parliament as well as the European Union on significant matters related to China.
As per Asian Lite International, Charles Parton told the UK government that China is “weaponizing” microchips embedded in bulbs, fridges, credit cards, cars, and a host of other smart devices.

Charles Parton report claims that the “Trojan horse” technology poses a ‘wide range’ of threats, particularly in four aspects: national security, economic prosperity, privacy, and human rights.
Highlighting the obvious, Asian Lite International stated that every Chinese firm is mandated to share data with the Communist regime whenever they are ordered to do so by the party. The report explained that through these Chinese companies, CCP gets seamless access to as many devices as they want.

The extent of threat
Three major Chinese companies, namely Quectel, Fibocom, and China Mobile, dominate the global market. They enjoy a 54 percent global market share in devices and 75 percent in terms of connectivity. These three Chinese firms have notable customers, including computing firms Dell, Lenovo, HP, and Intel; carmaker Tesla; and card payments firm Sumup.
Reportedly, the modules with embedded chips extract data. It then transmits the extracted data via 5G networks to these companies. This increases the risk of China getting the opportunity to monitor the movements of people and use these devices for industrial espionage.
Through his report, the former diplomat called on ministers to immediately ban Chinese-made cellular IoT (the Internet of Things). Cellular IoTs are tiny modules that monitor usage and then feed data back to the owner and even the manufacturer using 5G. These cellular IoTs are used in everything from smart fridges to advanced weapons systems.

That is why, whether the world accepts it or not, neo-colonial power, China has raged a full-fledged Information war. China desperately wants to fulfil its hunger for world dominance.
Consequently, it becomes imperative for countries, particularly democracies like India, to wake up before it’s too late. China has crawled into our devices. If these Chinese extended arms (Chinese companies) are not decoupled from the Indian economy, they will start getting into the heads of every citizen through their dictated narrative.
The information war is on, and China is undoubtedly the greatest threat to the world. However, it enjoys this lead in IW because of the ignorance, incompetence, or shortsightedness of leaders and the populace, or a mixed bag of all.
