Matsya Narayana Temple or Sri Matsya Lingeshwara Swamy Temple is located in the Matsyagundam area of ​​Visakhapatnam. Lord Shiva is worshiped in this temple. Matsyagundam is a rocky outcropping near the Sileru River. It is a famous place situated at a distance of 13 kms from Paderu and 47 kms from Araku.

The villagers of Polipalle, Thulabharangi and Marka surround him with concern. Sri Matsya Lingeshwara Swamy Temple is in the Matsyagundam neighbourhood. In Matham village, Matsyagundam is known for its centuries-old Sri Matsya Lingeshwara Swamy Temple.

History of Matsyaa Lingeshwara Swamy Temple

As per the legend, there was a fight between the Shek (Singraj) and the Fishes (Matsaraj). The mother fish had brought all the fishes from a place called “Jemili” for protection from snakes and the fishes have lived here since then, giving it the name Matsyagundam. It is believed that Lord Matsya Lingeshwara Swamy takes care of these fishes. The villagers not eat fish, and they don’t go fishing.

Here people gather once a year during the three-day long Mahashivratri to perform worship and cultural events known as Jatara.

Kailashgiri

By Train- Nearest railway station from this temple is Araku Railway Station which is at a distance of 45 km from this temple and Anakapalli Railway Station which is is at a distance of 85 km from this temple. From here you can easily reach this temple by using local transport services or taxi.

By Road- Araku bus complex is located at a distance of 47 km from the temple. Anakapalli bus complex is located at a distance of 85 km from the temple. You can also reach here by using your own vehicle as its roads are well connected with the other cities of the country.
