Down South, KCR is waging a ‘war’ against the Indian Constitution

KCR Republic Day function

KCR holds separate Republic Day function at home: Political aspirations make humans commit many misdeeds or say blunders, some which are unforgivable. The Telangana Chief minister and Bharat Rashtra Samiti supremo K Chandrashekhar Rao is on a spree of committing such unforgivable blunders.

India’s Republic Day and its importance

India, land to the most primitive or say oldest and most modern civilizations that has seen the wrath of many invasions, some for territorial supremacy while others for intellectual one. Battling invasions since the mediaeval times, India finally gained independence in 1947. Now, India needed its own set of laws to govern itself.

It took more than two years to get our own lawbook, the Indian Constitution and declare ourselves sovereign, democratic republic. All the Indians have great respect for the Constitution and to celebrate the ethos of being a sovereign, democratic republic nation, India observes Republic Day event.

However, this Republic Day, when the female officers were marching on the Kartavya Path saluting the President of India, Droupadi Murmu, showcasing Prime Minister’s vision of ‘Janbhagidari’, down south a chief minister could not tolerate the ‘bhagidari’ (inclusion) of the governor. Here, I am talking about Telangana CM K Chandrashekhar Rao.

KCR and Governor hold separate functions

The state of Telangana saw its last full-scale Republic Day parade in 2019. In the years 2020 and 2021, the KCR government did not hold the traditional police parade citing the COVID-19 restrictions.

However, this year the traditional parade did happen at the Raj Bhavan, following the High Court’s order. But the chief minister of the state was not present there neither were his ministers.

KCR did not turn up for the flag-hoisting nor send any of his cabinet colleagues for the event, further straining the relationship between him and governor Tamilisai Sounderarajan. The CM had, however, sent his newly appointed chief secretary, Santhi Kumari, for the event. Not only this, KCR also skipped the “At Home” Republic Day function at Raj Bhavan in the evening.

KCR holds Republic Day function at home

KCR, ignoring the traditional Raj Bhavan event, unfurled the Tiranga at his official residence Pragati Bhavan, in order to send out the message that he still believes in the constitution and thus is unfurling the flag to mark Republic Day. He then garlanded the portraits of Mahatma Gandhi and architect of India’s Constitution Dr. B. R. Ambedkar and paid floral tributes to them.

Ministers Vemula Prashanth Reddy, Satyavathi Rathore, Chamakura Mallareddy, MLCs Palla Rajeshwar Reddy, Naveen Rao, Shambhipur Raju, Madhusudhana Chari, Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari, DGP Anjani Kumar, CMO senior officers, staff and many public representatives participated in this programme. After unfurling the national flag, KCR visited the Army War Memorial in Secunderabad. He laid the wreath and paid floral tributes to the valiant soldiers. He remembered the sacrifices of fallen soldiers.

Telangana Gov attacks KCR, says ‘violating constitution’

Not attending the Republic Day event for the third year in a row, raises some serious questions about KCR’s belief in the Constitution of India and all the aforementioned steps prove to be gimmicks. The Telangana Governor, Tamilisai Sounderarajan also alleged that the constitutional spirit was being violated in the state.

At the event, while citing Dr B R Ambedkar, she said “Constructing buildings is not important, nation-building is important. Only a few should not have farmhouses, all the farmers in the state should have farms and houses.” While saying this, the governor was referring to KCR inviting a host of opposition leaders to inaugurate the new secretariat building in Hyderabad on February 17.

KCR has long fought for a separate state, carving out Telangana from Andhra Pradesh. Now, with expanding political ambitions, KCR seems to be challenging the constitutional values of our nation.
