“Dharm Censor Board” calls for an awakening of Central Board of Film Certification

Dharm Censor Board

Dharm Censor Board: On Thursday, the prominent Hindu seer Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati issued guidelines for filmmakers, requesting them to refrain from insulting, disrespecting, or mocking Sanatan Dharma in their films. On 3rd January, the seer established a ‘Dharm Censor Board’ to review Bollywood films and ensure that they do not contain any content that is considered anti-religious or that distorts facts about Sanatan Dharm.

Addressing reporters at the current Magh Mela, Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati said that filmmakers have been given guidelines not to include scenes or dialogue in their films which criticise, disrespect or ridicule Sanatan Dharm.

A new film censor board

While talking to the reporters, Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati said “The guidelines are based on the policy of ‘jhonko, toko and roko’ (talk, intervene, stop).” He added that if the filmmakers do not pay heed, a legal route will be adopted

He further added, that the ‘Dharm Censor Board’ has been established to review films for suitability for people belonging to Sanatan Dharm. He noted that the current government censor board often passes films containing scenes that offend the values of the Dharm. He expressed his hope that a religious person would be included in the government censor board but this request has been denied. Therefore, the Dharm Censor Board was formed.

The spiritual leader clarified that their Dharm Censor Board would not be challenging the government’s censorship board, but rather would act as an aid. He stated, “We are not questioning the censor board of the government.”

Shailendra Yogi, the media representative of Shankaracharya, has stated that the Dharm Censor Board will also guarantee that movie titles do not offend the religious beliefs of people or dishonour any divine figure or spiritual teachers.

He stated that the board’s work will not be restricted to films and serials, but will also encompass theatre performances produced in schools, colleges and universities.

Censor Board needs reforms

The introduction of the Dharm Censor Board can be a big  hurdle for people who spread their agenda and opinions that are hostile to Hinduism and its gods and goddesses. But if the trend of forming new boards continues, then many more boards could be created, such as Muslim, Sikh, Christian and even Brahmin, Rajpoot and Dalit Boards. And there will be no end to it.

The formation of the Dharm Censor Board is a result of the ineffectiveness of the current Censor Board. It appears that the current Board has not changed its methods since decades, making it outdated and ineffective.

It is evident that the current censorship system is not effective at ensuring that movies are suitable for public viewing. We have seen numerous instances where films that have been approved by the censor board have sparked protests and even violence after their release. This indicates that the board is not doing a good job of censoring movies.

Censor Board, Please stop behaving like the UN

India is appealing to the United Nations to introduce reforms, or it will risk its standing on the international stage. Similarly, if the present Censor Board wants to remain relevant, it should take into consideration the proposals put forth and not be afraid to reform the committee and bring in new members to the team. The Censor Board needs to recognize that it is necessary to make new adjustments. If the present Censor Board wants to remain relevant.
