Since 2004, the grand old party, Congress has projected Rahul Gandhi as its next supremo and the future Prime Minister of India. Despite his evident inability after each election, he is time and again pushed to prove his relevance. This time he came up with the campaign of “Bharat Jodo Yatra” and a segment of the media began presenting it as another relaunch of Rahul Gandhi.
Starting of a propaganda to project Rahul as youth power
Since the beginning of his career, Rahul Gandhi has been presented in the media as a ‘yuva’ with a vision to change the political arena once and for all. The whole of national politics was centred around him. After such a projection, he was given the responsibility to win the 2007 UP assembly elections. But the party failed to even sustain its past performance. Still, his incompetence was ignored and he was promoted to the position of the General Secretary of Congress.
Later, the media got busy projecting him as the 2009 PM candidate. However, Sonia espoused for Manmohan Singh’s second term. Rahul Gandhi never had a clear knowledge of politics. He was always found giving useless statements.
His knowledge of political ethics can be understood by the 2013 incident. He trashed the ordinance brought by the Manmohan government while the ordinance was pending before the President. Instead of questioning his immoral attitude, the left-liberal media hailed him as the saviour of Indian politics.
Even Rahul acknowledges it. In his recent statement, he stated how the media used to praise him until 2008-09 which it does not do anymore. He blamed media’s over emphasis on revenue for not covering him with favourable headlines. However, there is still a faction in media that declares his every political move to be his ‘relaunch’.
Rahul Gandhi’s statements seem to have proven to be an eye opener for the people of India. Congress Party faced humiliating defeat in 2014 elections in the hands of Narendra Modi.

A change in the perception of Indian people
He promised to install a potato factory that would yield gold. Still, he got pandered from the party and the media. In 2017, while criticising the Modi government, he showed his torn kurta. But his political stunt to connect with the poor failed miserably and he got trolled by the people by showing his pictures where he was seen wearing expensive clothes.
Every time he failed, he was given another opportunity as if he was ‘a baby born with a silver spoon’. During 2017 Gujrat assembly election he started visiting Hindu temples and projected himself as a proponent of soft-Hindutva. His sympathiser media personals once again started calling it a relaunch. Although Congress performed better in the elections, it was not because of him. It was all due to regional issues like Patidar Movement and the like.
To keep his hold on the party firm, he was made the President of Congress. But general elections of 2019 further deteriorated the condition and party was reduced to just 44 seats. Rahul Gandhi too lost his Amethi seat. According to former congress leader, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Congress lost 39 out of 49 elections contested since 2014.
With Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi has once again tried to prove his relevance in national politics. But he is failing miserably. Days after his visit in Telangana, 13 new leaders of Congress resigned from their party positions.

Bharat Jodo Yatra is a failed movement
His failure to connect with the people through his yatra is not even questioned. On the contrary, the media is busy showing his fitness. Recently, during his visit to pay homage to former PM Mrs. Indira Gandhi, he wore a half T-shirt in winter. Ajit Anjum tweeted, praising him for his strength. Similarly, Sagarika Ghosh wrote an article calling the yatra as Rahul’s ‘semi-Reinvention’. Her husband Rajdeep Sardesai too tweeted, calling him a marathon man.
The whole narrative has been shifted from Bharat Jodo Yatra to the personality of Rahul Gandhi. These media projections are nothing but a proof that Bharat Jodo Yatra is proving to be a failure, just like previous political stunts of Rahul Gandhi. Congress’ Prince charming does not need any relaunch. Instead, people’s voice demand something else from him.
