Indian civilisation is blessed to have unity in diversity, be it linguistic or cultural. But creating a rift between communities through falsehoods and hate campaigns has been a child’s play for politicians. The abhorrent and well-crafted lies of bogus Aryan-Dravidian theory, which have persisted for at least a century, are the prime examples of this destructive politics.
But as they say, “Live a life of lies; die a death of truths.” Simply put, all it needs is a glimpse of truth to bust these false narratives. Apparently, PM Modi is all set to demolish Dravidian politics to smithereens with his unifying push.
Unifying Politics of Sangam vs. Willful Cropping of “Chauvinistic” and “Separatist” Sangharsh
On November 19, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kashi Tamil Sangam in Varanasi. It is a month-long event that aims to rediscover the “centuries-old bond of knowledge.” It also wants to strengthen the ancient civilizational linkage between the North and the South.

Hailing the event, PM Modi compared the confluence of Kashi and Tamil cultures to the meeting of the sacred rivers Ganga and Yamuna. He stated that the Kashi-Tamil confluence is as holy as the Ganga-Yamuna Sangam. He stressed the importance of Sangams in our country, be it the confluence of rivers, ideology, science, or knowledge. He added that every confluence of culture and tradition is celebrated and revered in India.
PM Modi further added that Kashi is the cultural capital of India and Tamil Nadu, and that Tamil culture is at the heart of India’s antiquity and pride.
He stated that the two regions are also the centres of the world’s oldest languages Sanskrit and Tamil.
He stated that if in Kashi there is Baba Vishwanath, then in Tamil Nadu there is the blessing of Lord Rameshwaram. He added that both Kashi and Tamil Nadu are “Shivmay” and “Shaktimaya“ that is, drenched in the devotion of Shiva and Shakti.
Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, CM Yogi Adityanath, and Tamil Nadu BJP President K Annamalai, among others, were also present at the mega event. Acclaimed musician and Rajya Sabha MP Ilaiyaraja graced the august gathering with his melodious voice.

Amalgamation of the two great cultures, traditions, and cuisines
The Yogi Adityanath government has organised the event in collaboration with the Union government. The event will give a glimpse of the culture, cuisine, and music of Tamil Nadu to the people of Uttar Pradesh.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath also spoke about the unifying aspect of this grand event. He stated that, by hosting the Kashi-Tamil Sangam in UP, visitors will be introduced not only to the flourishing cultural heritage, but also to age-old cultural unity.
Displaying his anguish, PM Modi stated that, despite having one of the world’s oldest living languages, Tamil, we haven’t honoured it fully. He added that it is the responsibility of every Indian to preserve and enrich the legacy of Tamil. He stressed that as Indians, we have to remove linguistic differences and establish emotional unity.
It is a tight slap at the divisive politics regularly touted by the Dravidian parties. The Kashi-Tamil Sangam bursts the bubble of Hindi imposition. It also shatters the canard that the NDA government is trying to trample on the Dravidian languages.
Event details
About 75 stalls showcasing the cultural diversity of Tamil Nadu are being put up at the Amphitheater Ground of BHU in Varanasi, which will display the products, handicrafts, and handlooms of Tamil Nadu. Additionally, an exhibition also depicts the freedom struggle.
More than 2,500 delegates from Tamil Nadu have come to Varanasi. They are participating in seminars and interacting with local people hailing from their profession, trade, and interests.
The endeavour incorporates the ideas of the National Education Policy 2020. The NEP highlighted the need to emphasise integrating the wealth of Indian knowledge systems with modern knowledge. The premium institutions of the country—IIT Madras and IIT BHU—are the implementing authorities for this unique cultural programme.
Additionally, with his relentless efforts, PM Modi is unifying the country with the help of its rich, interconnected cultural roots. But, as they say, all good things take time. It may take years to undo any planted hatred, if any, or resolve genuine differences of opinion between residents of North and South. But it is for sure that we are on the right track, and the end of retarded Dravidian politics is inevitable.
