We can criticise and have criticised Vir Das when he went out and delivered a piece on how he lives in two Indias. But here I beg to differ, we indeed live in two Indias. One part of India is hardworking, which dedicates its time in earning its livelihood and contributing to the growth of the nation. The second class comprises the wine sipping intellectuals who discuss problems of India while sitting in AC rooms.
But wait, why do I need to make such differentiation when I literally hate to draw such lines. It is because India has not been able to resurrect to full stature for a very long time due to these elites. Despite constant efforts by Prime Ministers like Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi to show India’s might on the global stage, the Western nations still perceived India as a third world nation. However, the perception has drastically transformed post Russia-Ukraine crisis. This was visible in West’s attempt to draw India on its side and trusting PM Modi with the only man who could stop the crisis.
Australian sociologist at India Today Conclave
On Saturday, India Today had a guest who rebuked their star anchor Rajdeep Sardesai. Australian sociologist Dr Salvatore Babones, who is an associate professor at the University of Sydney, attended the India Today conclave held at Mumbai as a guest. There Dr Salvatore opined regarding India’s image and how it has been affected internationally. All the while Sardesai seemed upset at having lost all control over the narrative of the conversation. Rajdeep could do nothing and just sit and watch while the professor cornered the left-liberal cabal.
India’s Intellectual class is anti-India
Rajdeep Sardesai in the interview said that the international sphere looks at India with the ‘Modi Prism’ that India is being currently governed by a “right wing nationalist populist leader” and that decides India’s image. Dr Salvatore responded negatively to the comment and said that the international organisations are not biased. Rather they look at India through the eyes of the intellectual class which happens to be anti-India. Dr Salvatore stated that the organisations that are so called ‘liberal’ intellectuals who build the opinions of these organisations are anti-India. He said, “India’s intellectual class is anti-India. There is also a class of society who is anti-Modi and anti-BJP, not as an individual.”
The professor emphasised how India’s class, which is sitting in academia, universities and mainstream media, have toed an anti-India line in order to oppose Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Dr Salvatore called the criticism directed at the Modi government baseless. He emphasised that the aspects on which the criticism is based is never going to change. He had put some simple questions in the conclave, to which no one from the left liberal cabal has an answer, not even Sardesai.

Dr Salvatore asked, “Suppose that the UPA government comes into power. Is it going to take down the Ram Mandir, is it going to get rid of the UAPA? So, the basis on which the criticisms are made, that basis will probably remain in place. If they do, the same criticisms will apply to them.”
While the Australian professor was knocking out Rajdeep Sardesai, Rajdeep tried to defend his brigade. He said that questioning the government is an act of patriotism. Rajdeep asked, “Patriotism, as separated from nationalism, is questioning your government. So, the intellectuals you are demonizing are the intellectuals we should be celebrating because, unlike others, they are at least raising a few red flags. This is India’s greatness. Why not celebrate these instead of calling them anti-India?”
To which Dr Salvatore responded by saying that, “India has problems. And activists, journalists, and intellectuals absolutely have a role to call out the problems. But the problem is that they allow internationally to colour the overall evaluation of this system.” He reiterated that India is not a fascist country and that it is being wrongly portrayed as a fascist state by the global media, courtesy India’s own intellectual class. However, we don’t need to worry as the Modi government is taking care of the same.
