Do anything, but the prestige of Congress Poster Boy MUST NOT BE HURT

Rahul Gandhi

Acceptance of failure is the prerequisite in order to find a solution for the problem. But what if the failure and devastation of the organisation benefit the personal agendas of elites within it? There is no better example for this than the contemporary politics being practised by the Congress party.

The grand old party is in dire need of a revamp. It needs to unshackle itself from the glass ceiling of non-performing assets. Rather than implementing or mulling over those much-needed reforms, it has misdirected all its energy to make a politician out of Rahul Gandhi. It is doing everything at its command to do the bidding for its poster boy.

Misguided Congress goes full throttle against Assam CM

Congress’s political footprints are shrinking at a rapid pace. With the able guidance of Rahul Gandhi and his coterie, Congress, once the default choice of the nation, has been reduced to just two states. Ironically, both of them have deep internal fissures and may fall under their own weights.

So, for all practical reasons, the entire focus of the grand old party must have been directed towards the ongoing election campaign in Gujarat. But it seems that the priorities for Congress are completely different.

Interestingly, the party seems to have devised a new strategy dubbed as ‘confront moral victories.’ The party leaders are more concerned about the positive imagery of their Yuvraj rather than the “petty issues” like electoral successes or consolidating their vote bank and party workers.

Evidently, it has launched an aggressive attack against their former colleague and now Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma. The entire ecosystem of the party is working round the clock and directing their anger at the Assam CM for drawing a parallel between Rahul Gandhi with the Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussain.

The controversy and clarification

Earlier, in a public address, Assam CM Sarma had said, “I just saw that his looks have also changed. I said in a TV interview a few days back that there is nothing wrong with his new look. But if you have to change the looks, at least make it like Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel or even Jawaharlal Nehru will do. It is better if it looks like Gandhi ji. But why is your face turning into Saddam Hussein?.”

However, in a media interaction, Home Minister Amit Shah had categorically stated that not much should be read from such statements. He stressed that these things keep happening in the heat of election campaigning. Further, he added that it is a non-issue and should not be stretched any further.

He said, “Such things should not be stretched. Whenever elections happen, then such things are spoken and people listen to it as well. People enjoy it. After believing in this, voting doesn’t change. In elections such types of talks are done.”

The pot calling the kettle black

Rather than focusing on the election campaign in Gujarat or uniting the party, Congress preferred to keep raking up Assam’s chief minister’s statement by comparing their party leader with Saddam Hussein.

For the past week or so, its desperation has only increased, and it is trying to take the moral high ground through the statement. But it should not forget that it has a dark history of making controversial and hateful remarks about people occupying constitutional posts in the country.

It is the same party that has been scripting their own dictionary of slurs and abuses to be hurled at PM Narendra Modi and even his family members. The list of slurs is endless and too uncivilised to be mentioned again and again.

Later, the Assam CM highlighted the futility of Congress’ strategy to corner him and stated that instead of trolling him, they are ending up making the remarks go viral.

As expected, the top echelons of the Congress seem to be busy to create a positive image around their leader Rahul Gandhi so as to have his another coming of age entry into politics.
