Bollywood is currently facing one of the worst crises since the inception of the Hindi Film Industry. Films after Films are tanking badly at the box-office. Almost every film manufactured by the Bollywood are either being boycotted by the much aware audience or are just failing to deliver at the content level. While big budget productions are forced to release their films on the OTT (over the top) platforms in order to save themselves from the box office disaster.

OTT platforms have contributed in the direction of decimation of Bollywood. However, as far as the content available on the OTT platform is concerned, there is no scrutiny that allows everything and anything to be floated on the platform. Many times this easily available nudity filled content on OTT platforms become the most polluting thing, the same that was recently observed by the Supreme Court of India, citing an Ekta Kapoor’s web series.

Ekta Kapoor rushed to SC, just to get slammed

Ekta Kapoor’s web series XXX has been at the centre of several controversies even before its release. Multiple FIRs were filed against Kapoor for allegedly insulting soldiers and hurting the sentiments of their families in the web series that aired on Alt Balaji.

Following a complaint lodged by Shambhu Kumar, an ex-serviceman in Bihar’s Begusarai district, an arrest warrant was issued against Kapoor by a trial court. Kumar has alleged that season 2 of XXX featured several objectionable scenes in connection with the soldier’s wife.

SC observed what we knew all along

Kapoor rushed to the Supreme Court, filed a plea challenging the arrest warrant issued against her. The plea was heard by a bench comprising Justices Ajay Rastogi and CT Ravikumar.

The Supreme Court of India on Friday observed that Ekta Kapoor was polluting the minds of the young generation.

The Supreme Court said, “Something has to be done. You are polluting the minds of the young generation of this country. It is available to all. OTT content is available to all. What kinds of choices are you providing to the people?…. On the contrary, you are polluting the minds of youngsters.”

Advocate Rohtagi, appearing for Ekta Kapoor, tried to persuade the judges saying that the content is subscription based and that there is freedom of choice in this country.

Upon this the bench slammed the advocate as well as Kapoor and called out their elitism. The bench said, “Everytime you travel to this country.. We don’t appreciate this. We will put a cost on you for filing such a petition. Mr. Rohtagi please convey to your client. Just because you can afford and hire the services of good lawyers. This court is not for those who have voices.”

Ekta Kapoor- Not a role model

Ekta Kapoor may be publicised as the mightiest woman of the entertainment industry, who has independently carved out her own niche and has made many. However, there are many facets to the feminism icon of the Bollywood industry and is the founder and managing director of the Alt Balaji Production Films.

Earlier, she has been often called out for her erotic web-series which can be easily categorised in the section of adult content. It seems that Ekta Kapoor takes more than allowed advantage of her creative freedom. This, in turn, has the potential to destroy our culture permanently. Ekta Kapoor is busy portraying sexual relationship between mother and son, student and teacher, aunt and nephew and what not.

Indians have always lived under the well-defined boundaries of morals and ethics and this is what keeps the civilisation intact and ongoing. However, the more vulgar, abusive and insanely sexual content, that happens to be on the mobile screens of each and every youngster today, is doing too much harm.

To add on, producing explicit content is not the only sin of Ekta Kapoor. Rather, for her entire career, all she has done is demean the India family system through daily soap operas. Ekta Kapoor has gone too far with her TV serial based on a distorted version of Mahabharat.

All that Ekta Kapoor can now do is quit.
