Peace is the prerequisite for progress. In the absence of rule of law anarchy prevails, in which rights and progress of a citizen are mere concepts on paper. Thankfully, the UP-CM Yogi Adityanath demolished all the major roadblocks in the strict enforcement of rule of law. This has led to holistic progress in the state be it economic, social or cultural. At a time when radicalisation is on a rampant rise in several Indian states, UP CM Yogi took slew of measures to crush this radicalisation menace.
Zero tolerance to forced conversions
During British rule, the colonial power Britain kept North-Eastern states isolated from the rest of the country. They gave an open field to evangelists and Christian missionaries to run their conversion racket unabated. It is evident from the changed demographic composition of seven sister states. Unfortunately, after Independence appeasement politics prevented India from implementing a cure to this onslaught of monotheistic Abrahamic religions. However, off late their constant urge to convert every living being under their belief system has been facing public outrage. State after state is drafting stringent laws on the lines of the UP government to stop forced or coerced conversions in their respective states.
Evidently, the system is getting in place and positive results of these stringent laws were witnessed most recently. Apparently, a convict was given a 5-year jail term under UP’s anti-conversion law. This is the first conviction in the state under the Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act which was passed in February 2021 by the Yogi government.

The Court of Additional District Judge (POCSO Act) of Amroha gave a five-year jail sentence to convict Afzal for abducting a minor Hindu girl and later forcing her to convert in lieu of marriage.
Reportedly, on 2nd of April, 2021, convict Afzal lured the minor girl to run away with him and get married. Her father lodged a police complaint on the same day. Afzal only revealed his true identity when he took the minor girl to a faraway place in Usmanpur area, New Delhi. He forced the minor girl to change her religion. However, before he could accomplish his nefarious agenda and marry the minor girl, the Police team rescued her. The police tracked Afzal’s location through surveillance of his mobile phone.
During the trial, the girl testified against Afzal. Additionally, WhatsApp chats between the girl and Afzal were also presented before the court as evidence against the accused.
Darul Uloom welcomes Madrassa survey
There have been relentless accusations of religious radicalisation and religious indoctrination going on in the garb of Madrasas education. To protect young minds from hardlines, the Yogi Adityanath government ordered a survey of unrecognised and self-financed madrassas. To execute the order, investigation teams were constituted at the district level on September 10. These constituted teams will conduct outreach surveys in those madrassas that are running without the aid of the state government. Within the survey, the investigation teams will gather information from madrasa operators on the financial sources and basic facilities of their institutions. These teams will submit their report to the government on October 5.

Knowing the firm stand of UP CM Yogi against hardliners and radicalisation, a Muslim organisation Darul Uloom Deoband welcomed the decision to conduct a survey in madrassas. After a meeting with more than two hundred and fifty madrassa operators, it has told all the madrasa operators that all Islamic seminaries will have to cooperate with the survey. It has also asked all the madrasa operators to keep all the accounts of madrasas transparent.
This acceptance of government led clean-up of shoddy Madrassas and action on radical elements in Madrassas is a big blow to the communal politics of Mulsim outfits and politicians like AIMIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi.
Other measures to crush radicalisation and mainstreaming modernisation
UP CM Yogi Adityanath has taken action on all those who illegally tried to project themselves as messiah of the minority community but kept oppressing innocent people on the name of their religion. This false iconography was shredded to pieces by actions on mafia elements like Mukhtar Ansari and Azam Khan among others. These mafias misled youth on the road of destruction and indulged in anti-social and anti-India activities.

The fear of law is such that it was for the first time that Eid namaz was not offered on roads and other public places. Similarly, there was no communal carnage in UP when several states like Rajasthan, West Bengal or Jharkhand had witnessed gory scenes of Islamic intolerance on several Hindu festivities. Additionally, Loudspeakers were removed from religious places with proper consultation and no one got a chance to evoke communal fervour in the state.
Along with taking tough action on hard-line radicals, the Yogi administration has taken many steps to promote modern ideas and reform the Madrassas education. To instil the feelings of patriotism and for cultural awareness among students, the UP government made it mandatory for all Madrasas to recite the National Anthem. Additionally, it announced the introduction of new subjects like Hindi, English, Maths, Social Sciences and Science in Madrassa schooling.
Following a carrot and stick policy for hardliners and reformists, UP CM Yogi Adityanath has demonstrated that if the state upholds rule of law in true sense without being biased or succumbing to vote bank politics, radical Islamic theologists can be wiped out from the state.
