‘Ponniyin Selvan’ is one of the most readable novels in Tamil Nadu. Efforts have been made for decades to make a film based on this novel written by Kalki Krishnamurthy. It is an adventure to make this novel in two parts with a rich history and powerful characters. At last Maniratnam stepped into the field making the impossible possible. Great actors and technicians have been brought together. From the day the clap was clapped, there were huge expectations on the film. At a time when the pan-India trend is going on. The film has been made in two parts with state-of-the-art technology. The first part of ‘PS-1’ (ponniyin selvan review) was released on Friday.

Story: This is the story of the last days of Chola Chakravarthi Sundara Chola (Prakash Raj). He has two sons Aditya Karikalan (Vikram), Arun Mozhi Varman alias Ponniyin Selvan (Jayam Ravi) and a daughter Kunda Y (Trisha). Both the sons continue to be young kings in Kanchi and Sri Lanka. Kunda wai is with the father. Adithya Karikalan sends a letter to his father and sister in Thanjavur to Vandiya Devan (Karthi), who is involved in the war with him. He also tells him that something is happening in his father’s empire and that he should come to know what it is. That’s how Vandiya Devan went to that country. Finance Minister Pedda Palavetturayar (Sarath Kumar) realises a conspiracy hatched by other vassals.

Palavetturayar’s conspiracy was to eliminate Sundara Chola and make Madhurantha kudi (Rahman) chakravarti. Kundavai, who came to know about it… Ponniyin sends a message to Vandiya Devan asking Selvan to come to Thanjavur. In the meantime, Palavetturair sends his men to Lanka to arrest Ponniyin Selvan and bring him back. What happened after that? What happened in the course of facing the army sent by Palavetturair with Ponniyin Selvan and Vandiya Devan? Who is Nandini (Aishwarya Rai) in this story? The relationship between her, Ponniyin Selvan and Adithya Karikalan remains to be seen on screen.
