Every generation has a lot of emotions invested in the kind of cinema or music they have grown up watching or listening to. The Hindi Film Industry that is currently short of ideas, is busy plagiarising content, copying from the south or renovating songs by adding some more beats and a lot of voice modulation. The audience, however, is in the process of becoming immune to the same, the time has still not arrived when no heads would turn on Bollywood manufacturing craps. And, for the audience, Falguni Pathak has taken upon herself to teach the remix queen Neha Kakkar a lesson for her life.
Falguni Pathak is synonymous with music for an entire generation
Falguni Pathak, widely regarded as Indian Madonna, has been a very popular female singer. Pathak has made almost every one of us groove to her melodious voice. What made Falguni Pathak a sensation in the late 90s was the music of her songs that were based on the traditional music forms from the Indian state of Gujarat. She has innumerous popular Indian pop singles to her credit, that are still heard and appreciated across the nation. Her melodious voice with a Folk touch is what helped Pathak stand out and carve out a niche of her own. Some of her most famous tracks include, Meri Chunar udd udd jaye, Aiyo Rama hath se ye dil kho gaya, Yad piya ki ane lagi along with Maine Payal Hai Chankai, that has been the epitome of centre in the recent controversy.

Neha Kakkar destroys ‘Maine Payal Hai Chankai’
Neha Kakkar has a thing for remixes and this was again visible in her recent single titled ‘O Sajna’. Neha Kakkar’s new song happens to be a rendition of Falguni Pathak’s iconic song ‘Maine Payal Hai Chankai’. The song features Priyank Sharma and Dhanashree Verma and is trending on #3 on YouTube with more than 18 lakh views.
The music for the revamp is composed by Tanishk Bagchi and Lait Sen. The filmography has been done on the same line as per Pathak’s video, and is just the ‘modern version of the old story’. The tune of the song is the same with various changes in lyrics and presentation. The original track was released in 1999 and was recorded as a puppet show in a college fest. The song was a massive hit with fans listening to it even today. These were the tracks that made Falguni Pathak, the ‘Dandiya Queen’.
Neha Kakkar slammed for destroying the original
Since its release on 19th September, the song has been at the centre of controversy and Neha is being slammed for the same. The listeners are of the opinion that we were better off without it, and we cannot exclude ourselves from that bunch.

Neha Kakkar’s attempt to rev up the old song has not proven to be a good idea and people have criticised Kakkar for ruining the essence and innocence of the older version- the original version. Most people are calling it unnecessary and yet another misfire from the likes of Neha Kakkar, Tanishk Bagchi, Tony Kakkar, who have made a career out of recycling old songs with little original work to their name.
Falguni Pathak teaches a lesson to Neha
The legendary singer has raised strong objections against the remix. Talking about the picturisation, she mentioned that the new one has destroyed the innocence of the original song and said that if one wants to reach out to the younger generation, they should change the rhythm of the song, but not make it cheap.
During her interaction with Delhi Times, Pathak revealed her initial reaction to the song was absolute disgust. She said,“I got to know about the remixed version three-four days back. First reaction was not good. I was like, mujhe bas ulti aani baaki thi, aisa ho gaya tha. (I was about to puke, it was like that).”
She revealed that she felt “overwhelmed and touched on receiving so much love” for her song. She has said that her fans are taking action against the song and she is just sharing the stories. For those unversed, Falguni Pathak had shared stories of her fans who and all had criticised Neha for running their childhood.
While speaking to Pinkvilla, Falguni re-shared a story by her fan that asked her to sue Kakkar. When asked if Pathak was planning on taking legal action, Falguni said, “I wish I could but the rights are not with me.”

Remixes and Bollywood’s Helplessness
The recent controversy has raised two important questions, First- Has Bollywood actually left with no new ideas at all? Second- What’s Hindi music industry’s obsession with remixes? In the last couple of years, we have heard a lot of removes and remakes of popular songs and the makers have been at the receiving end of heavy criticism. The older generation owns a lot of emotions invested in yesteryear songs and none has the immunity to stand the tampering done to classic songs that are being ruined in the name of catering to the younger generation.
Something original and unheard is what makes it to the heart and anything revamped with voice modulation and some drum beats will be set to receive flak. The Hindi film industry needs to understand this, before they go extinct.
