India becoming the fifth largest economy in the world carries a crucial contribution of Bangalore, with the highest share of services among all states. Being the Silicon Valley of India, its IT sector contributes around 7 to 8 percent of India’s GDP, as of 2020. This makes it evident that the city is on a spree of development. However, its Chief Minister doesn’t want Bangalore to flourish, rather wants his vote bank to prosper.
CM Bommai’s proposal of reservation
Recently, the Karnataka government presented the Kannada Language Comprehensive Development Bill, 2022. It was tabled to ensure the use of the Kannada language in government offices, banks, and in higher education. It also provides reservation for Kannadigas in industries and other establishments. If the bill is passed then it will replace the Karnataka Official Language Act, 1963 and Karnataka Local Authorities (Official Language) Act, 1981.
The provision came as mandatory saying any industry that does not comply with this decision will not be eligible for government concessions. It was added that the industries will be barred from any benefits, if failed to provide reservations in jobs to Kannadigas.
Considering reports from the past few years which marked altercations between the bank staff and the public due to lack of the Kannada knowledge, the bill said, “Every person employed in banks and other financial institutions situated within the state of Karnataka shall use Kannada language also in all its communications and correspondence with the public.” To add to it, in case of failure by any government official to abide by the use of Kannada language in administrative and official transactions will be considered for “dereliction of duty.”
Concentrating at the proposed bill, it can be noted that it’s a mere political tactic used by the incumbent CM Basavaraj Somappa Bommai. Apparently, it’s because he now disregards with the notion that reservation is meant for the upliftment and betterment of the people, instead of attracting the local voters of the region.

Understanding the background of karnataka
The southern state of Karnataka includes a dominant ethnic group of Kannadigas which marks around 67 percent of the total population in the state. However, nearly 42.12 percent of population occur from outside the state. Notably, after Mumbai, Bangaluru has the second largest migrant population.
The most important reason for migration in Karanataka is its ability to generate hordes of job opportunities, especially in the IT sector. Bangalore’s IT sector includes 4.5 lakh employees, of which a mere 30 percent are Kannadigas. The rest development of India’s Silicon Valley lies in the hands non- Kannadiga population.
Therefore, CM Bommai’s introduction of reservation bill will reduce the opportunity for the population other than the Kannadigas. Allotting priority jobs to them will force the rest of Indians to think twice before contributing in Karnataka’s economy. Just to imagine, in case of fulfillment of the reservation bill, the talented youth from north of India will no more show up for Bangalore. And this will ultimately reduce the income generating capacity of the state. Therefore, leading to Karanataka’s decline.

Bommai is leading Bangalore towards destruction
Through this, it can be considered that CM Bommai will take both Karnataka and its BJP’s segment into ruins.. Undoubtedly Karnataka’s BJP unit have some popular faces like Tejasvi Surya, the President of Bhartiya Janata Yuva Morcha. Other than that, B.S Yediyurappa, who made BJP earn the support of the Lingayat community but this move by CM Bommai can shatter BJP image nationwide.
BJP’s Basavaraj Bommai, who is on a spree to win election by hook or by crook. And that’s why he is using the linguistic tactic for the support of locals of Karnataka. His dirty tactic for elections might be successful for short term but it will harm the state’s economy in the long term.
CM Bommai’s reservation plan will have a series of decline. Starting with reduced opportunity for non-Kannadigas – reduced number of people to contribute in GDP – reduced income generation level – reduced earning of the state – leading to an affected economy and ultimately in economic decline of the state. Thus, the picture is crystal clear that in order to win Karnataka, CM Bommai is on the path to deliberately kill Bangalore.
