Bihar Mahagatbandhan has two Krishnas and two Arjunas

JDU poster

Undoubtedly, Bihar politics has become interesting with twists every now and then. And its credit goes to the current Chief Minister and his allies. After all, it’s not an easy decision to join hands with a party with little to no chance of grabbing the winner’s trophy. However, the two are now trying hard to establish themselves in Indian politics, and this time their technique is through the JDU poster of depiction.

Bihar’s Guru and disciple relationship

Recently, a poster of Janata Dal-United (JDU) made rounds on the internet. The JDU poster depicted Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as Arjuna and the party president Lalan Singh as Krishna.

The poster was released in light of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the year 2024, portraying JDU releasing a chariot amid efforts of Nitish Kumar’s opposition unity. Nitish Kumar, holding a Gandiv bow in his hands, the poster revealed the message that the battle for elections has begun with full force.

Release of such posters came as an insult to many. In reality, Krishna is always depicted in yellow clothes which portray his power with a notion of “I can do it.” However, in the recently released poster Nitish Kumar and Lalan Singh are seen in green clothes.

Apparently, the green colour has its own significance in Indian politics. It has been mainly hijacked by self-declared proponents of secularism. The colour holds specific significance in Islam and by using it in the poster, JDU is trying to consolidate its hold in the hearts of nearly 2 crore Muslims of Bihar. It is a significant number as Muslims comprise nearly 20 per cent of the population of Bihar..

BJP takes it in

The symbolism probably did not go unnoticed to Bihar BJP. However, they did not raise the issue of cultural appropriation and limited their criticism to JDU’s twisting of Sanatan.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokesperson Prem Ranjan Patel taunted JDU. He said that in Mahabharat Arjuna and Krishna, stood with Pandavas against atrocities. While Krishna and Arjuna of JDU are the ones who did injustice and atrocities in Bihar.

Meanwhile, in response, JDU’s Chief spokesperson Neeraj Kumar said that the poster reflects the sentiments of the party workers.

The hollow relation of JDU’s Krishna and Arjuna

The alliance between RJD and JDU may be a bad thing for the people of Bihar but it will surely prove to be a shot in the arm for both these parties. The ulterior motive of JDU leader Nitish Kumar was power and JDU never had any ideological coherence with the BJP. As soon as Nitish realised that he is becoming a political pariah, he drifted towards RJD.

Evidently, the JDU and RJD are collectively working to mark their establishment. On one hand, Nitish Kumar feels that betraying BJP and joining hands with RJD has jolted the saffron party. On the other hand, this overconfidence of JDU will soon take it into ruins

Apparently, the intra-gathbandhan conflicts have started to emerge. It is well known that Tej Pratap Singh, the elder son of Lalu Prasad Yadav had called his brother and newly appointed Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav as Arjuna, while appointing himself as Krishna. Now that JDU has also taken Krishna-Arjun relationship to advertise itself is another thorn in the coalition.

Nitish knows that the 2024 election is his last chance to rise to the top of Indian Polity. Loss in 2024 means that he would never be able to become Prime Minister. It is possibly the biggest reason why he joined the Mahagathbandhan.

On the other hand, Mahagathbandhan is a tool for Lalu’s children to resurrect their career. Tej Pratap was already in ruins while Tejashwi was trying hard to sustain himself amongst his own core vote-bank, the Yadavs. Invoking of Bhagvan Krishna is yet another attempt by RJD to push the Lalu Patriarch up the top.

BJP has to find the way

Bihar has been a tri-party dominated state for several decades. All the three parties, more or less, have always kept their core voters intact. It is an open secret that an alliance between any two parties from the three is a winning combination. However, the state has been wrecked courtesy to the two caste driven parties RJD and JD(U).

The best solution to take Bihar out of Nitish-Lalu Raj is to change the dynamics in the state. If the RJD and JD(U) hold on to their caste, religion-based vote bank, their alliance will be invincible. For this BJP has to start aggressive campaigns to find leaders from the respective communities like it has launched in tribal regions of Jharkhand. People don’t have faith over the ruling pattern of JDU. Interestingly, those who won on JDU tickets outside Bihar also don’t have faith in his leadership.

Jungle raj back in Bihar

With the support of trembling politicians of Bihar, trying to make their significance in a way, the Mahagathbandhan Sarkar came together once again to announce the revival of “Jungle Raj” in the state. Cases like mafias, extortion, murder and rape, among others are once again haunting the state of Bihar.

Sadly, no matter whosoever is the king in Bihar politics, it is the people of Bihar who suffer. Whether Nitish Kumar diligently follows his alliance or stays alone, he will be the ultimate curse for Bihar Politics.

The relationship of friendship between Bhagvan Krishna and Arjuna as ‘Guru-Disciple’ is considered sacred. Bhagvan Krishna was considered as a friend and an advisor to Arjuna in times of need. On the other hand, the graphically created relationship between JDU’s Krishna and Arjuna is neither of a friend nor an advisor. It is because, evidently, Bihar has made no success under the ruling of either JDU or RJD.
